Problems using KM to upgrade 9800 with dishnetwork 301 upgra

Trying to upgrade but a few questions. Where do I specify the unit address as "2" in KM? Is it unit code or device code?
After pasting upgrade data to IR "devices" tab I am prompted to assign this upgrade to a key, tried to assign to Cable/Sat and I get "LIst index out of bounds(-1). Not sure what to do about that

"Unit code" is the answer to your first question. The second indicates a problem with your RDF, I believe, which I'm not smart enough to understand.

Not sure what's causing the error, but to work around it, type your new setup code from KM into Cable/Sat on the General tab before pasting in your upgrade and you won't be prompted.

There are three RDFs listed for this remote. One is for standard unit and the others are for use with extenders. I have used the standard. Is there anyway of telling if this unit has had and extender installed?

The extender is not installed. The extender is an extra set of devices and protocols that you install yourself through IR, not any kind of different hardware. If you do a download in IR, the correct RDF should be picked automatically. Just backup your current IR file beforehand so it doesn't get overwritten by the download.

Still Having Problems

Couldn't get first upgrade to load so tried another. Dish_301_Dev1_1775
which is 2116. This loaded ok but it still is address 1 even though I selected unit code 1 which I believe is correct for address 2 since 0 is for 1
Help please

We're at the point where it's all guesswork. If you read the Beginner's read this first thread, you'd know that it's time to upload the files tha don't work for someone to look at.

I'm not sure what guidance you were following, but...
according to the Protocol Help worksheet:
The "unit codes" as used by KM are the same as the ones used by
your Dish device.
If you are looking at learned signals in IR.exe,
the sub-device that is displayed will be one less than the unit code.
For example, if you are using unit code 3, the learned signals will
show sub-device 2.

For certain older remotes, like the 15-1994, you need to use OBC
mode if you want to change the unit code.
So first of all, if you want unit 2, as I read this, you want to enter "2" for the unit code. The offset only (apparently) applies to decoding learned signals in IR.

Secondly, you are in EFC mode on the functions sheet instead of OBC mode.

You need to switch to OBC mode (on the functions sheet, click the "OBC" button infield 1A while still in the original upgrade BEFORE you change the remote type and unit code).

Try that and see if it works.

By the way, do you have a working upgrade for a Dish machine using unit code 1? Or is this your only Dish machine? Why are you insisting on Unit code 2?

I have anoyher dish receiver using code 1. So I need this one to be different. I will try the working upgrade but switch to 2

OK, so that's what I would do. Take your WORKING upgrade, switch to OBC mode on the functions worksheet, and then change the unit code to 2. If that doesn't work, try 1 (if your WORKING upgrade uses 0) and then if that doesn't work, I'm sorry, I have no further ideas. I've never done this myself, but thought that I understood the guidanace in the various help areas.

I'm just throwing our potential avenues to pursue here, since I'm out of ideas, but:

Are you certain about/have you verified the address setting of the Dish 301? ...and have you tried OTHER address settings?
Do you have ANY remote that works your second Dish receiver? If so, can you get those signals learned and decoded somewhere? I know it's difficult with the 9800, but perhaps you can build the simple CaptureIR device and decode them to see exactly what codes the 301 is responding to? .. or send that remote to someone else who can learn and decode it?
