JP1 Remotes

What are my options to get my remote to work with the hr20, none of the codes seem to work. Can I just use the learning option?

But to answer the question yes you should be able to just learn all the commands you want. The 8820 is a newer remote and should be able to learn a fair number of keys before running out of memory.

I just wanted to know if I can call up one for all and get a code?

You can indeed call "one for all."

They may have a code, I'm not sure.

If they don't, then you can use the resources of this forum.

Just to be clear, this forum is not a part of "one for all" - it is an independent group dedicated to reprogramming JP1 remotes (which are manufactured by UEI ("one for all").

most of the stuff done on this forum is done by way of programming these remotes through an inexpensive (unofficial) cable which you can buy or build and use to link your PC to your remote control.

There are also lots of ways that the group can help people without a cable.

What misled me was your not following the normal posting protocol for this section, and your seeming confusion about how "learning" and "codes" work.

But it's late here on the bottom of the globe - so I may not have read the question(s) correctly...

I (or any number of other people here) would be happy to help you with your problem - but please first do us the simple courtesy of completing the (very simple) template stickied at the top of the section.

(I realise that we could probably trawl this information from your previous posts - but if you summarised it here it would be a thoughtful and helpful thing to do)

I was able to learn the remote, I got 90% of the featured learned on the first try. I tell you, that direct tv remote is really horrible.

Just FYI, using the template is mandatory for code search questions. If you don't use it, most of us will ignore the question. I think that's the point that Jim was trying to make.

I was indeed trying to steer you in the direction of completing the template - it just makes life so much easier for someone trying to answer your question, and avoids the long ping-pong game of:

"Have you got a cable ?"
.......wait for answer ...........
"Have you got the original remote ?"
......wait for answer.............
"Have you tried these upgrade files from the file section"
......wait for answer.............

etc...

It only takes 10 seconds for the person asking the question to complete, and it usually means the question can be solved in a couple of posts instead of a couple of pages of posts.

I know that it can seem a bit grumpy to insist on it, but, trust me, if you've tried answering questions without it, you soon get bored with asking the same 5 or 6 questions over and over again.

But no problem - I'm not trying to sound like I'm lecturing - I'm writing this as much for the benefit of other new users who are wondering why they need to fill in a boring old template instead of just asking their "simple" question.
