I notice on yesterday my mute button under the volume lock function for the urc 8820 stopped working, I have aud function set for my yamaha receiver. The volume works fine under the volume lock function but not the mute button. I tried reprogramming the vol lock feature but nothing happen, the result are the same. Is there anything I can do? I tried removing the mute function under aud but I its not working.
Any thought?

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I think you've done something wrong here. If you put a macro or a keymove on the Mute button that will override the Volume punch through for the Mute key.

What can I do to fix this, I did have to use the advance code 244 to set the mute button. When I am using the turning channels on the cable box and I go to hit mute, it doesn't work but the volume works fine

I think you have two options here.
1) clone the mute keymove for every device that is supposed to punch through to your receiver
2) use the extender. Although since you are a newbie, and the extender is a newbie too, I'm not sure this is the right solution for you.

Without the extender, VPT only works for the signal defined by the setup code, not for a signal defined by keymove (assuming that is what you meant by "use the advance code").
But if you used an upgrade with the correct Mute signal for the Audio device, and avoided keymoves, macros and learned signals on the Mute button, then VPT ought to handle Mute as well as it handles Vol+-.

I have all the features working for the remote for the receiver. I programmed all the advance functions into the remote, the mute button works when I push aud or aux, but will not work with the volume lock function.

Are these in an "device upgrade"? John is right, putting these in an upgrade is the best way to do this.
You might want to post your IR file so we can check it and tell you exactly what's wrong.

I used the EFC code to program in the mute function for the aud .

I used the EFC code to program in the mute function for the aud .
Which is why its not working with V punch through. V-punch through works on the device level.
So you can create a device upgrade with RM or KM that has all your codes for the receiver. Then the volume punch through will work on the mute key.
Or if you are not ready to create an upgrade, you'll need to clone that keymove so that it is on all the devices that you want volume punch through for.
Or use the extender.
-------
Creating an upgrade for you device is your
best most efficient option, but if you are too new to feel comfortable doing that (it took me 2 years to get up the nerve) you can create a bunch of extra keymoves.

Now when you say clone, do you mean using the learning option? Would I have to erase the mute function before learning? How would I cleared the mute function back to its default?

Any solutions proposed here will be based on guesses as to what you have really done wrong, so if those guesses are wrong, the solutions may also be wrong.
If you were to load a copy of your IR file into the Diagnosis Area and post a link, I bet most of the experts would quickly spot the error and give you the correct solution.

I don't have jp1 loader for the remote. I know this can be fixed without that, everything was working up until the other day.

You started this thread in a JP1 forum, I'll move it to the non-JP1 forum for you.

Thanks, sorry about that!

If you've lost track of what programming you've done (and my guess is that you have a keymove, learn or macro that's overriding your VPT), you could do a 980 reset and start over.
