Remote for both Air Conditioners Got caught in Flood

Hi guys. I have two air conditioners at my business which I control with remotes that each came with. One is a Fedders AC, the other is a FrigidAir AC.

There was a recent flood and unfortunately both remotes got caught in the water. Neither work anymore.

Is there anything I can do in terms of using a universal remote to turn the air conditioner unit off and on and maybe raise and lower the temperature? How would I start going about this.

...err...I think this should be in the Non-JPI forum...can a mod plz move it...

Well, there's a Fedders file that may work for you HERE. But you'll have to get a JP1 remote and cable and learn how to use all of the software to use it. Start with the Beginner's Forum and read the Beginner's Read This First FAQ sticky post.

I don't see anything for the FrigidAir, however.

You probably hadn't heard of JP1 until you started searching for solutions to this problem, which is too bad, because the thing to do is to capture the info from the remotes BEFORE they end up broken (for whatever reason) so you can always create a replacement when needed.

Hopefully the Fedders file that we have is compatible with your unit, but you won't know until you buy a JP1 remote and try it.

We can't help with the FrigidAir though until somebody comes along and captures the signals from their remote and creates an upgrade.

Are you sure the OEM remotes are beyond repair?

The remotes were sitting in water (due to a flood) for days. The insides are rusted, the battery terminals are rusted, and the remotes look like they are in bad shape physically.

I tried playing it smart. I didnt try the remotes when I got my hands on them. I took the batteries out and let the remotes dry out for days. After I let them dry out (even put them under the sunlight for a while) I tried putting the batteries in and trying them. Nothing. Neither one works. The LED that lit up whenever a button was pressed no longer registers.

It is too bad I found out about this too late. I will be reading these forums for the next few days though and trying to get caught up so I can prevent this in the future.

There was a remote for the FrigidAire on ebay recently, but somebody bought it with "Buy It Now"

Maybe, the guy who bought the remote would be willing to learn the signals for us. I could send him a learning remote so he could learn them and then return the remote to me. Would you be willing to cover the cost of the postage each way for this? Plus, of course, you'd need to buy a JP1 remote in order to use the resulting upgrade.

Here's a site that sells FrigidAire remotes:

I captured my frigidaire air a while ago - and then had to rebuild the computer. As of yet I really haven't gotten back into JP1, but I think the file is usable.

So I'll upload the file in minutes - please let me know if I can be of more help.

Edit here's the file - afraid it's not to pretty though. Done for a RS 15-2116.

(BTW I think Fedders and Maytag room air conditoners are the same things.)

Thanks GLT. I cleaned up the file for you (I noticed that you put the funtion names in the Notes column rather than the Functions column, so I fixed it and re-loaded the file).

supes_el,
We now have upgrades for both FrigidAire and Fedders, so if you'd like a remote with both upgrades pre-loaded, let me know. Of course, I can't guarantee that these upgrades are right for your particular models of AC, so it's up to you if you want to give it a shot.
