JP1 Remotes

I'm sure this question can be answered by simply trying it, but I thought I'd ask first:

I just bought a URC-6131nw from Wal-Mart and I was planning to put in an EEPROM and JP1 pins. I mistakenly ordered the part 579-24LC16B-I/P from mouser.com instead of 579-24LC16B-I/SN...the only difference that I can see (which doesn't mean much) is that the chip I have is slightly bigger. I could probably bend the pins and get it in there, but would it work, or should I wait for the right part to get shipped?

The pinout of the PDIP and SOIC versions is the same. If you can somehow get it to fit and connect the pins, it will work, but you shouldn't attempt it unless
A) you've had a lot of SMD soldering experience, or
B) you have a spare URC-6131nw (just in case).

It might work if there is enough room, but you may need to run small wires. The P (DIP) uses 0.100" pin spacing. The SN (SOIC) uses 0.050" pin spacing.

Just to follow up on this, I attempted to solder the larger EEPROM by running wires from the PCB to each pin and it worked beautifully. Thanks for the suggestion.
