JP1 Remotes

Hi everyone. A couple of weeks ago i modified a 6131n for JP1. Added the eprom and 6pin hdr. Everything worked fine for a few days. Suddenly, the remote is not remembering most of its functions and macros. I program it again with a known working ir file that i've saved. Everything works for a couple of hours just fine however it just stops working for no good reason. I tried new batteries but the same thing happens every time. When it does crap out, the only thing that seems to work is being able to power on/off using the cbl/sat and master power buttons. Reprogramming works and restores macros and anything else from the ir file but then just dies after a couple of hours. Can anyone lend a hand pls?

What's the voltage spec of the EEPROM chip that you used?

I have no idea except that i ordered the one recommended on here from Mouser. Do you think its the wrong type?

No, I was just curious. If it's voltage requirement was too high, it might have explained it.

So do you think its just a defective remote? Its no biggie cos i didnt pay much but it'd be nice to get it working again...

Here's a couple of things you could try. Check for vibration/motion sensitivity (looking for bad solder on eeprom) by loading your upgrades and setting the remote down carefully and waiting several hours to try it again.

You could remove the added eeprom (harder than installing one) to check the processor itself (see if it holds normal programming) obviously no upgrade devices, etc will be available but you could manually program some keymoves.

Are you using an extender? If so try adding some upgrades in a non-extended version. Loss of a connection will foul up an extender differently than non-extended remote.

Try a different brand of battery, some name brands are notorious for out of the package dead batteries.
