Trying to add a function

I'm new, playing around with some of the remotes I've purchased. I have been fooling around with it, reading and testing for 18 hrs and I cannot figure out how to add a function to the device code list I downloaded from yahoo: (Sony_KV-27S66_TV_0000.txt).

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jp1/files ... V_0000.txt

The above has video1/video2 advanced codes in it, and I'm trying to use video1/video4. Currently I'm working with a 15-2116, trying to add that video4 button:

1. Save above file and import into remotemaster 1.21 with latest rdfs. It was written for 2116, so no need to change remotes.

2. Map out buttons, copy and paste into IR 6.00 using 2116 rdf.

3. Go to keymovers and edit the video2 entry to reflect the efc/hex of video4, which I think is 029/$e2 ( http://www.hifi-remote.com/cgi-bin2/ueic.cgi?TV_0000) .

4. Upload to remote and test.

Video1 button works fine, but video4 does nothing. If I upload the upgrade as intended (with video1/video2) 030/$82 it switches to video2 just fine.

I've also tried editing the video2 entry on the function tab of remotemaster to reflect 029/$e2, and then copy/paste/upload, but the same thing happens.

What am I doing wrong? tia for help, I know it's trivial..and there may be a better way to do it (I'd appreciate hearing it if so),but I'd also like to know how to do it this way in order to learn more about the process. tia

It might help us spot an error you have made if you upload your saved IR file.

It may be that your TV (is it the exact same model?) doesn't accept the video 4 command.

I seem to recall that some Sony TVs don't support the discrete code for Sony4.

But regardless, the best approach is to eliminate all the steps where humar error could be introduced, and verify that the codes work before you try and figure out what you might have done wrong.

Here are the EFCs for the video inputs on Sony TVs...

034 video 1
030 video 2
032 video 3
029 video 4
162 video 5
158 video 6
(the code for video 7 comes from a different device code)

You can test these codes using the standard TV/0000 setup code. To test an EFC, you don't need to program it to a button, you just need to tap the SETUP button (aka, P on RS remotes) and then type the 3 digit code.

I would suggest that you ....

1) Program TV/0000 to the TV button
2) Verify that the basics work (ie, volume, ch+, etc)
3) Verify that the video 1 and 2 codes work
4) Test the remaining input codes

If you verify that video1 and video2 work using the steps above, but video4 doesn't work, then your SOL as far as the discrete is concerned. In this case you should use a macro that selects video3 (or video2, if video3 doesn't work) and then use the TV/VCR or INPUT button to toggle to the desired input.

Thank you for the responses, I'll try what you suggest.

ok that explains it :) My tv only supports discrete input codes 1-3. I just moved my dvd player to input 3....low tech solution :o
