JP1 Remotes

I have two DirecTIVOs and I will be using 15-2117's for both of them. I want to set a different unit code (remote address) on each unit, so they won't control each other.

I have tried using the device codes from the Yahoo group and changing the unit code and using some they have pre-changed unit codes. Nothing seems to change the unit code from 0. The 15-2117 has the built-in Tivo code of (VCR/0618), the upgrade codes using KM also use VCR/0618. If you upgrade the remote with a device that already exists from the factory does it overwrite or does the factory code govern?

Any ideas?

Why don't you just change the device code for your upgrade to 1618 and
bind that to the device button in question. That way there is no confusion.

Assuming that you have successfully changed the unit code on the Tivo itself, changing the device codes to the two alternative device codes used by Sony does work, so if it's not working for you, you've done something wrong.

Without actually seing your files (KM, IR, etc) we can only guess as to what you did wrong. Typically in situations like this, the user has forgotten to assign the upgrade setup code to a device button.

Just FYI, if you create an upgrade that uses the same setup code number as a built in setup code, the upgrade overrides the built in code.

I would agree with SFHub that it's generally a much better idea to change the upgrade's setup code to avoid confusion. For homemade upgrades, I like to use 2000+ numbers as there aren't any official codes with numbers that high yet. How about 2001 for unit code 1 and 2002 for unit code 2.

I tried the 2001/2002 trick and it worked. For some reason using the 0618 code didn't seem to overwrite the built-in code.

Just for other people reading this, when you use the same setup code as a built in code for your upgrade, it WILL override the built in code, despite what you might imply from Chippy's post. He was obviously doing something else wrong.
