JP1 Remotes

Hello,
I've been away two years but just got a new TV, DVR, CD_DVD Carousel, and DVRW_VHS. So, I got everything I needed from the files folder (including newest IR and KM etc.) and learned the rest to create new upgrades.

It all went really well until I had to learn every command for the Sony CD_DVD Carousel (model #Sony DVP-NC675P) and create a new upgrade for it. I should preface by saying I'm using the Radio Shack 15-2116/15-2117 Extender 2 which doesn't allow for learning.

My new upgrade created from the learned commands works except for "disc skip" which is EFC 177_OBC 062_HEX 7C using setup Code 0533_Protcol Sony 20_Main Device 26_Sub Device 73

If I don't use the extender and just learn the key it works fine. But when I create the upgrade and try to use the extender it won't work. I've tried assigning it to other keys and that didn't work either.

I hope I've asked a coherent enough question that someone might see my error.

According to Rob Humphries site it should be Sony20:26.98:62

Sony has a habit of using alternate device codes. You probably didn't notice since most of the keys are 26.73 and copied down the EFC without looking at the sub-device.

Install this device upgrade but don't assign to a device:

Upgrade code 0 = 95 fd (CD/1533)
de 00 01 58 46 00
END

and key move CD/1533 EFC 177 to whatever key you want.

I looked at Rob Humphries site and followed that fine. I then checked my learned codes and you're right the sub-device code is 98 and not 73 like all the others. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Would it be too lengthy to explain what your upgrade code did?

I'm wondering 'cuz my plan is to use the RS-2117 just as a "learner" when need be. My everyday remote is going to be my old RS-1995 (since it's already been dropped, and the backlight no longer works . So, my next "project" is going to be to transfer all the successful 2117 programming over to the 1995.

Will your upgrade code you just gave me work for the 1995 too, or is there some adjustment that needs to be done first? Oh, and I also am converting it all to an "Universal Electronics Atlas XL" remote for everyone else to use. (The 1995 is mine...all mine I say!)

I am VERY appreciative of your help. This JP1 stuff is at the edge of what I "technically" can do. I didn't think I could do it, but with all the great stuff you all have put together over the years and some help along the way, I've managed. I can't say "thanks" enough. My family thinks I'm so smart, but I know where the true credit belongs.

I'm glad it worked. Rob H.'s site is very comprehensive. Since AFAIK, there is no built in setup code for sony20:26.98, you have to add a device upgrade. Since you are going to key move it onto a button in the CD device, then there is no purpose to adding the additional bytes by assigning buttons.

The device upgrade is what we call a "no button" upgrade. Use KM (or RM) and enter a setup code (1533 the actual number doesn't matter as long as it isn't CD/0533 -- we typically add 1000 to the built in setup code that it relates to), pick the remote (2117/6), device type (really doesn't matter but I chose CD), protocol (Sony20), device (26), and sub-device (98 )

You will need to change only the remote type in KM (or RM) to the 1995 or the Atlas, the rest would be the same.

I am currently building a device combiner protocol for a 6131, and have run into a similar situation as ththat described within this thread. I didn't find an EFC under 0533 that worked for Disc Skip for my DVD player, a Sony 5 disc, so I learned it with my 2116. I was able to obtain the protocol ID, fixed data, efc, obc, etc. That is fine for me, as it just goes into KM, assigned a byte 2, I'm done.

I got thinking, though, about whether I could post something for the folks at Remote Central who don't (or won't) (Grr) use jp1; to help them if they had a desire to use a non-learning remote to control their DVD changer.

So I thought, well, it must just be another setup code, and I'll go through the setup codes on Rob's site for Sony DVD or CD, plug them into Devices, and see which one mathes the Protocol ID, Fixed Data, etc.

Nada.

So, I thought that perhaps I could divine the setup code from jp1 tools. After going back over all the docs on Yahoo, and searching the threads here, I could not find a way to do that.

By doing a search here, this thread is the only info I could find on the specific subject of Disc Skip and Sony DVD. Your quote above reads, to me, that there is not a built-in setup code in UEIC remotes that uses that Protocol ID and Fixed Data. Is this true?

If so, then I guess my effort to help those with non-learning remotes is for naught? If that is the case, that kinda sucks.
