JP1 Remotes

I have an integra receiver that I use as a house amp. Because I was unable to find a Devices file for this particular brand, I taught my 2116 the basic commands I need, then created a keymap master file.

The problem is that, while the protocol for all commands is the same (NEC1), certain of the commands use a different subdevice code than others (for example discrete power on is on subdevice 108 and discrete power off is on 109). So in keymap master I selected as the protocol NEC1 2DEV Combo (since that seemed logical), added the appropriate byte2 codes for each command depending on the subdevice, then downloaded it back into the remote.

Unfortunately, none of the codes then worked. I had been able to make it work earlier by uploading into IR. exe one keymap master device file for each of the separate subdevices, but this requires additional keymoves and the use of another device button in my remote's configuration. In addition, for some strange reason, the discrete power off commands fails to work after a few days.

Does the NEC1 2DEV Combo protocol not intende to function the way I thought, or is there something else I should do to make it work for my receiver?

The correct protocol to select is "NEC1 Combo", this one keeps the main device code fixed and let's you specify the sub-device code in the "byte2" column.

Given that you mentioned your sub-devices are 108 and 109, I'm going to take a wild guess that your main device code is 210,am I right? If so, your Integra uses the same signals as Onkyo receivers, so you can probably use any of the Onkyo device upgrades in the file section.

The 2DEV combo is designed to combine signals where both the device code and sub-device codes are different.

Looking at NEC1 in keymap master, I don't see any place to specify which subdevice is involved. The only instruction is Enter Device Code; byte2 = sub-device. Does that mean I put "108" or "109" in each row of each command (rather than a 1 or a 2)?

"byte2 = sub-device" means that byte2 column is where the sub-device goes, so yes, this is where the 108 or 109 goes.

Before you go to the effort of creating a new upgrade from scratch, check out the Onkyo upgrades as not only will one of them probably do "as is", but they will also show you how to use the NEC1 Combo.

It doesn't require use of a second device button. You can have an upgrade device that is not assigned to any device key but just used as the base for KeyMoves. You can leave the buttons sheet on that upgrade blank to avoid wasting space.

I've got no guess about why that happened. But I think if you went through the whole process carefully you'd either discover it doesn't happen or you'd find out what really happened.

But, as Rob said, starting with an Onkyo upgrade using the correct combo protocol is probably a better way.
