OFA URC-8810w, 2 Qs + RCA VCR2 code req

Thanks to a friend on JP1/SageTV (Opus4, yay!), I have bought a URC-8810w from WalMart to potentially replace the RS 15-2117 I got the other day. Figuring it to be $10 cheaper AND 8 or so more buttons, seems like a no-brainer.

As a general curiosity, some of the codes on the OFA don't do all the buttons that the RS remote did. For example, TV 0054 and VCR 0081 (to simulate RC-5 for my Hauppauge 250 until I get a JP1 cable) seem to leave out more buttons. I'm assuming this isn't a problem, as EVERY key on the OFA can be programmed to do SOMETHING unique w/ the JP1 cable, and I can map the RC-5 codes to Hauppauge's ir.exe receiver. Hoping this is the case.

As a question, I have 4 different RCA VCR's in the house, and two of them are programmed to be VCR2. None of the 5 codes in the manual (0035 0060 0048 0042 0240) nor the potential code on the web site (0202) simulate VCR2. Anyone know one offhand? Easy enough to simulate on JP1 worst case?

Final question, any reason anyone can think of to keep the RS 15-2117 instead of the OFA? I'll miss the LCD display, but the RF box doesn't seem of great benefit, and I think I like all the extra keys. Just in case I'm missing something.

Thanks for all the help, gang! Can't wait to get this all running...!

One reason to keep the 2117 over the 8810, it has a code for RCA VCR2, code is 0202.

If you use JP1, it doesn't matter much whether the setup code you want is built in. Pick the remote that has the size, shape, button layout, etc. that you prefer.

You are correct with a JP1 cable. Technically the "EVERY KEY" probably takes using the extender. One example is that the 2117 can have a macro assigned to a device key. For the 8811, it takes the extender to add that feature.

RCA:14 (RCA protocol:device=14) is VCR1 and RCA:13 is VCR2. You just create a device upgrade with RCA:13 to get VCR2.
