MX-500 remote can't learn Xfinity XR2 codes

I just upgraded my Xfinity DCT to the new X1 platform with the XR2 remote. To my dismay, my trusty old Home Theater Master MX-500 remote is unable to 'learn' the IR codes from the Xfinity remote. It appears to be learning the code properly, reporting "good" after each key is programmed, but upon exiting setup mode, none of the learned codes actually work to operate the DCT. I had the same problem with a Phillips TV a couple of years ago. I also tried a newer model Universal RF20 with the same dismal result except it was able to learn the "channel down" key. Before I embark on the job of learning the "JP1 world", I'd like to know if my old MX-500's and RF20 are even capable of using the newer equipment codes. The MX-500 has a 7-pin JP1 connecter. Help please :?:

The Xfinity X1 uses and XMP protocol that is very difficult for most learning remotes to capture. Your MX-500 is not a JP1 remote. I don't know what, if anything, we can do for a MX-500.

Thanks..I assume that goes for the RF20 also? I guess I'll need to find something that will handle the X1 platform. Last time I tried out a Logitech Harmony, though, I hated it. Any recommendations?

The rca rcrp05br is 11.99 at Walmart. Its a nice little learning remote. Works with our jp1.3 cables. I personally like the Atlas cable remotes better, the button placement is better. But it is confusing trying to buy Atlases because they come in so many because flavors. You only want a jp1.2 or jp1.3 Atlas variety.

Amongst my various remote controls I have an MX-850 (made by Universal Remote Control). I tried learning the codes for my Sony amplifier, but they did not work properly. I then read the help in the user guide for the MX-850 software, and it described using the "flutter" technique when learning buttons.

The instructions for most learning remotes suggest "press and hold" the button on the sending remote, until the receiving remote indicates "OK". With the flutter technique, you press and release the button on the sending remote repeatedly and as quickly as possible, until the receiving remote indicates "OK".

I think that the flutter technique is intended for those sending remotes that use toggle codes, and requires the receiving remote to have enough intelligence to recognise the toggling nature of the codes that it is receiving. The MX-850 does, and I was able successfully to learn the Sony codes using the flutter technique.
