Hi all, im pretty sure this is easily answered somewhere on the site but.. a few years back i joined the site and setup a JP1 8910 remote which has worked great ever since. Now im moving it to another room with different equipment. I can't seem to remember or figure out what i need to do to get the discrete codes i need for my equipment into the 8910. I have the following:

Samsung LEDTV UN40C6300
Sci Atl 4200 HD cable box
Apple TV box
Dell PC

Really all i need is to figure out what the samsung codes are for video inputs and get them into the remote. Im familiar a bit with IR.exe but cant remember what i need to do to get the right codes in there. Any help is much appreciated and please dont ridicule me. It does say "there are no stupid questions here" :)

Thanks in advance to all!

Basically, you're asking for a Code Search for these devices, so please use this template to avoid many others asking you individual questions:

1. Device:
2. Type of device:
3. Year:
4. JP1/UEI Remote model:
5. Do you have a JP1 cable?
6. Still have original remote?
7. Checked the file section?
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)?
9. Partially working setup code?
10. Learning remote question?
11. Have you tried the JP1 Lookup Tool?

You see, if you have a cable then are likely upgrades for most of your devices in the File Section of this forum. If there aren't then you can learn the codes from your original remote (if you have it). That would get you most of the way there and all you might need help with is finding the discretes. For the Samsung you could look at the many upgrades and see if any have discretes that might work for your TV - just becasue they aren't for your particular model doesn't mean that they won't work. There is also this file which lists many Samsung discretes.

Hello and thanks for the response. I filled in below but in essence i dont think i can "learn" a discrete code off the original remote if there is no specific button for it. For instance i need to know the codes for my tv inputs. I understand i can try other TV codes but im unsure how to read them into IR because its been awhile since i did this. I guess i just need to read some more. :?

You don't read the upgrades into IR - you read them into KM or RM. You can then see the protocol, device number etc. and if this even partially matches your device then you explore further and look at other files. If someone has built a good upgrade they will have labelled the functions in logical manner. They may even have added a specific comment regarding their file such as "Samsung xxxTV; includes discrete codes" to help you find and download likely candidates.

Remote Central is worth a look as they have "Discrete Code Hunter" page (pages, actually).

Ok thanks. I think i was missing the KM or RM piece. I think i used to use KM to do what youre saying. I'll investigate further and im sure it will all come back to me.

Thanks for the help!

Hello, im still in a quandry... last night i found an upgrade for a samsung tv, read it into KM and i see there's most likely the function i need (one of the TV input codes). I can't figure out how i get that information into my remote. If someone can explain that part to me i think im good to go.

Thanks again in advance folks!

Have you visited the wiki?

http://www.hifi-remote.com/wiki/index.p ... ce_upgrade

The boards have been really slow since the Wiki was put up, so it must be very effective.

Well, there are many ways to do it. The easiest would be to use the KM upgrade as is. Change the remote type in KM to your model then copy/paste the upgrade code (and protocol code if it's not blank) into Devices (and Protocols) in IR. Then in IR on the General tab, make sure the new samsung code is assigned to TV.

Alternately, if you confirm the protocol, device and subdevice for your existing samsung code match KM, then just make a new key move in IR using the EFC from KM.
