1. Device: Panasonic PV-9451
2. Type of device: VCR
3. Year: 1999
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: URC-6131n
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? No
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
9. Partially working setup code? Yes, VCR/1062
10. Learning remote question? n/a
I need to know if there is advanced codes for my unit's
Tape Position command?
See picture attached below,
red arrow points to the button on the original remote that I wish to use on my One-For-All URC-6131n.
Original Remote Control for the Panasonic PV-9451 VCR
I did find that the code that works well with my unit is VCR
1062[Panasonic]. But unfortunately, there weren't any advanced codes for the Tape Position command functions.
click here to view that page. -- I have also searched for that code in the Look Up Tool page, but found nothing that would work or indicate that it would be for this function.
I have tried other known Panasonic device codes for this remote, but none of them will give me that function nor have the advanced code for it. Here is a list of Panasonic device codes I have tried. Perhaps you can suggest some other ones?
Panasonic device codes I have tried:
- VCR: 1062, 0035, 0162, 0225, 0454, 0616, 1035, 1162, 1262
Thanks in advance for all your help.

The File Section here includes an upgrade for the PV-9451, but you didn't mention seeing that. It also includes an upgrade called Panasonic_VCR_Master.txt. The first upgrade has many keys listed, but not tape postion; however the second upgrade file (the Master) does show Tape Postion, and it is device 144, subdevice 5, OBC 43.
For some remotes. Video 1062 is able to generate a signal with subdevice 5, while other remotes can't. The EFC to try is 091 (37665 in 5 digit EFC remotes).

Hi,
Thanks for the support.
I tested the code 144 on Video 1062. The function it gives is the "zero/1 min skip" function instead on my VCR. I'm wondering if there is another?
Just for reference: the text file I am looking at can be found here:
click here -- hopefully this is the one you are referring about. If not, please provide me a new link. Thanks in advance.
Out of curiosity. What's the program that opens correctly this txt file? I tried Notepad, and it was strange. I tried WordPad, and it was a bit better, but somehow I get the feeling I should use something else? Since I am not sure how you got device 144 from that list.
Sorry for being such a noob.

JayJay, the txt upgrades can be opened with Keymaster ( an excel spreadsheet) or with Remote Master (a java based app). Both can be found in the File Section->Tools->Main area. If you go with RM, make sure you download the java libraries too.

I just went back and re-read this thread, and see that Jay-jay is using urc6131N. This remote was manufactured whe UEI was transitioning from 3digit eFC's to 5 digit EFC's. This remote has problems with EFC style keymoves.

Yes, you are right. I am using a newer model version of this remote control.
The old model is: URC-6131
And the new model is: URC-6131n
Note: the "n" after "6131"
With this remote control, I have been using four (4) digit device codes for my units. And have been using three (3) digit advanced codes for special functions.
Below are pics of the new and old version, plus the original remote control for the above VCR (just for reference):
3FG, in the link above where I include where I have been getting the advance codes for the VCR device
1062 click here. Advance Code
144 is shown there to be the "
1 min skip" function. Perhaps there is a mistake above where you fetched that code to be the "
Tape Position" function? Just wondering at this point?

The recommended code is NOT 144, but 091. Have you tried that?

The "subdevice 5" is the problem here as there isn't a setup code that uses that subdevice in this remote, and the URC-6131 doesn't use 5 digit EFCs, so you can't generate it that way.
So, bottom line, it's not possible with this remote without using JP1.
And just FYI, while the URC-6131 and URC-6131N may look different on the outside, they are exactly the same on the inside, so their functionality is 100% the same.

Yes, but no luck. Question does it say for which device code that advanced code works for? So far I tried VCR 1062 and VCR 0162

It should be setup code: Video 1162, EFC 091 = tape position according to the following file

Thanks. I still have the VCR, I just stored it away, since I replaced it with a HDMI version. But I will test it, to see if that was the key or not. Give me a few days....
Thanks for the support!

VCR/1162 and this upgrade both use the Panasonic Combo protocol, which doesn't accept 3 digit EFC codes and Jay's URC-6131n remote doesn't accept 5 digit EFC codes.
The problem here is that this one function uses device code 5 and there aren't any built in setup codes in the URC-6131n remote that can generate that device code without an upgrade.
Last time we checked, Jay's remote was unmodified and he didn't have a JP1 cable. If those two facts haven't changed, there's nothing new for Jay to test here.
