Is there a way to lock the Video Source button/key like we lock the channel and volume keys?

I would like the Souce Key to be locked to the TV Device.

Is this done with a key move?

You can't "lock" it per se, but you can certainly make several Key Moves (one in every non-TV device mode) for that button to perform the same function regardless of selected device.

How do I see what the code is for TV - Source so I can set all the Devices to the same command?

Two ways to make it the same command in every mode:

- Make a keymove in every mode. Use the same procedure you used to add the advanced code in the first place, but repeat in every mode, but press TV before pressing setup and advanced code. For example, in CBL mode, press setup 994, TV, setup, advanced code, video source. Repeat for AUX and other modes.

- Put the video source command on a different button and put a macro on the video source button that has your new video source button in it. The macro will run the tv video source command in all modes.

EDIT: Make that 3 ways. I forgot about key copy. See a few posts down.

So can this be done all from the remote itself? If so, what is the "advanced" code? or does it all need to be done from IR.EXE?

It can be done from the remote without IR.exe. But the advanced code varies from TV to TV. What model do you have and what setup code are you using?

Advanced code is the 5-digit code for the tv video source command. All can be done on the remote, but is much easier in IR. (I have no idea if you have IR or not). If video source already works, and you didn't have to use a code, forget about codes and just do the key copy below.

I'm making a lot of assumptions here, like assuming you already have the advanced code for the source command and have it working in in TV mode, so maybe you should post using the code search template so we know what you've got.

I forgot all about key copy. That's probably the best way. Once you have the source command programmed and working in TV mode, do a key copy to the other modes: Setup for 2 blinks, 994, TV, video source, CBL, video source (2 blinks). Repeat for AUX and other modes, replacing the CBL button each time.

In your other thread you indicate that you have a cable? Just create the Keymoves in IR.exe on the Keymoves tab, and when in the pop-up box to create a Keymove, near the bottom, where it says "EFC/HexCommand" select the "Key" radio button. Then assign the TV/Input button to whatever other device/button combinations you want.

Using IR is SO much faster and easier and easier to correct than doing it from the remote's keypad.

Key copy does not work on this remote. Do not get 2 blinks at the end, just one long one. Could it be another # besides 994?

Like Capn said, IR is much easier. But the manual method should work as I described. What are your steps exactly? Have you loaded the extender?

I entered the steps exactly as you instructed, but no two blinks.

What is the extender? Sorry for the noobie questions.

Did the SOURCE button work "out of the box" or did you need to re-program it using an advanced code? If the latter case is true, you CANNOT use the keycopy method to program the button in the other modes as that method would copy the original code, not the one that you re-programmed it with.

So, if the SOURCE button worked "out of the box", do this...

1) Press and hold the SET key, 2 flashes
2) Type 994, 2 flashes
3) Press TV, SOURCE, {other device button}, SOURCE, 2 flashes

If the SOURCE button did NOT work "out of the box", do this...

1) Press and hold the SET key, 2 flashes
2) Type 994, 2 flashes
3) Press TV
4) Press (don't hold) SET
5) Type the advanced code
6) Press the other device button
7) Press SOURCE, 2 flashes

If you try this and you don't get 2 flashes, please state at which step it failed.

If you have to ask what an extender is, it means that you're not using one, so that's all we need to know about that for now.

And so, which advanced code (also termed EFC, Extended Function Code) will you use? We can suggest one if you tell the model of your TV and the setup code you are using......

Source did work out of the box.

This time it seemed to work.

I did this for all devices

1) Press and hold the SET key, 2 flashes
2) Type 994, 2 flashes
3) Press TV, SOURCE, {other device button}, SOURCE, 2 flashes

and got two flashes after I entered the target device.

I'm at work, so I'm not sure if it works yet. With Volume Lock and Channel Lock, no matter which device button is active/pressed last, the CBL device button lights up.

Now, If I press DVD, then Source, the DVD light goes on... I would think the TV light would go on, but perhaps key copy does not work the same as the Locks.

I'll post back when I get home.
