JP1 Remotes

Hi,

I have four RCA RCU810 Remotes, the last one is rapidly becoming unusable.

I have been attempting keypad repairs for many years now, all with poor or worthless results. None lasting more than a few days.

The plastic used for the keypad is a very strange vinyl type plastic.

Nothing seems to stick to it. In addition to the two repair kits I have tried to lay down some sort of glue / Epoxy before applying the repair solution but so far all I have tried have not stuck.

First Repair:

This did not work, I have learned over the years that it might have worked "IF" I had cleaned the copper fingers.

Second Repair:

CaiKote 44 K-CK44-G

This compound sticks even less than the first Circuitworks CW2605 compound.

Many more repairs first laying down some sort of glue / Epoxy before applying the repair solution (CaiKote 44).

Last week I cleaned three keypads and applied the Circuitworks CW2605 compound to them.

I placed two spots of the compound in an unused part of the keyboard.

For all three keypads these spots have dried up and lifted themselves off of the plastic.

I have not yet tried any of the keypads as I plan to wait at least two weeks to ensure that the Epoxy has really set well.

With the test spots lifting off, I do not expect usable results again.

I have purchased and tried several glues and Epoxies spending $$$$$.

Does anyone have a glue or epoxy that will really stick to this funny keypad plastic.

After repairing a couple of remotes years ago I finally decided that it wasn't anywhere close to being worth the effort. As cheap as new learning remotes are just buy a few more. That's my take anyway.

Don't throw away your wonderful RCA RCU810 Remotes.

I think that I have found a solution but more testing is needed.

I am starting to believe in your position.

But do not consider Logitech remotes as the solution. Price wise they are NOT cheap!

Successful RCU810 JP1 users will be frustrated and perhaps angry if they do not read this first:

The time required to get back to where you are with your RCU810 is very long in time and very huge in understanding how to get there.

A long term solution depends on finding a two part Epoxy that will adhere to the plastic used when all of the conductive black paint has deteriorated.

If sufficient black conductive paint remains, a repair is possible. Tape head cleaner is the key to getting CaiKote 44 K-CK44-G to work!.
