I ABSOLUTELY love my URC-7780. So, much i bought 4 of them. Unfortunately, as of last night, i am down to my last one. I might be able to fix some of the used ones, but i have not tried as of yet.
Question, are their any remotes you can still buy that control at least 8 devices, and show on display the current device your controlling.. I had to buy these things from Europe and have them shipped to the U.S. Unfortunately, they do not appear to be available any more.
But, being i have a 10 year old son, he is destructive, and the remotes get dropped a LOT. So, i think my last one got dropped one too many times.

There are 2 newer remotes that you might want to look at, the first is the Nevo C2, which can be had for about $15 (with free shipping) from China on ebay, and the second is the OARUSB04G which is $15 on Amazon. Both remotes are USB remotes which means you don't need a JP1 cable to program them, you can use a regular USB cable.
The Nevo is a fancy remote with a color LCD screen, which will be more than enough for your 8 device system, but I don't know that you want your kid using it, given his current kill rate with remotes!

The OARUSB04G is a regular buttoned remote (no LCD screen), so this is probably the one that you would want your kid to use. It's only a 4 device remote, but if you know JP1, that shouldn't be a limitation.

Yes. I probably have some of those as well as the 7780's American cousin (no backlight though) I'd let go really cheap. PM if interested.

I just bought one Nevo C2. Ill see if i like it.. The problem is all the new remotes are getting really skimpy on the buttons. I needs lots of buttons as i always have a problem fitting everything i need on the number of buttons these newer remotes are offering.
Any other remote suggestions?
Are the maps/rdfs for the remotes on this site in the file section or on another website?
Thanks for your feedback.. Keep em coming..
Ps, gotta have a back light!

Who ever said the remote was for him?!?! Its off limits, but when does that EVER stop a 10 year old boy that leaps before thinking.
Ill own up to it too, I've dropped the remote myself once or twice...
