That black rubber grip coating has been used on several different models of remote, and yes, it does degrade and become sticky over time, but it can be sanded off to make the remote usable again. I would start with some Soft Scrub and an abrasive sponge and see how far you get. You may need some fine grit sandpaper to finish it. You could also try using an old credit card as a scraper.

I have now posted development build RMIR v3.1.7 in the RMIR Development folder on SourceForge. It adds a read-only setting DirecTV RF to the Settings panel for OfA and ARRX XSight Touch and Nevo C3 remotes. I believe these are the only remotes that have this RF capability. The OfA Touch doesn't have the facility to enter a code for the RF of DirecTV Satellite boxes though it does internally store such a code. That is the only one of these remotes that I have, so my testing is incomplete. I would be grateful for this version to be tested on the other XSights, please.

To control a Directv receiver by RF you still have to pair the remote to a given receiver by using the last 6-digits of Receiver ID number.

Anyways xsight and nevo universal remotes won't control directv receivers by RF that have been released in the last twelve years since directv changed the RF frequency it uses in their receivers.

Great point Edmund. This won't actually affect anybody since the compatible receivers have been obsolete over a decade.

But I'll confirm Graham's changes when I get a chance.

Tested on ARRX and Nevo (US versions). Setting display works! Shows the RF ID set in the remote settings. If I delete the DirecTV device on the remote, the value gets reset to 000000.

Thanks

I have had great results with WD40 and one of those non-scratch nylon dish scouring pads. I cleaned up all of my remotes and a few other gizmos that come with that awful comfort grip coating that degrades into that sticky mess.
