1. press and hold SETUP for two blinks
2. enter 9 9 4
3. press AUD/AUX device key
4. press MUTE
5. press CAB device key
6. press MUTE
Thank Man! that did the trick. Does this restore the mute key?
No, it keymoves the mute command from AUX device to the cab device. Perhaps all you really needed to do was reset the cab device clearing any advanced codes that might have been mapped to the mute button on accident. And restoring VPT.

Here is an update. (Added direct tv receiver)

I now have a new scenario, I have both cable and direct tv, I reassigned the vcr button to the control my direct tv receiver in which I used the learning feature to program the remote. My only problem now is, I cannot get the direct tv receiver to work under the volume control lock, it works with cable fine.

Any thoughts?

Keymove the Vol up, vol down, and mute from whatever device the is source of those commands to the directv device. Each command one at a time. Like so:

1. press and hold SETUP for two blinks
2. enter 9 9 4
3. press AUD/AUX device key
4. press VOL UP
5. press DIRECTV device key
6. press VOL UP

Repeat for vol down and mute.
