What are all of the 6131 variants?

Post by unclemiltie »

When I first set up my 6131 there was three (the base remote plus the two extenders), now I see a whole slew of them.

What is the difference and how do I tell what I have? RM is asking me to pick a remote since it no longer knows what it knew back when I did these upgrades.

If it helps, I bought mine from Rob, modified, with the JP1 interface already soldered in.

thanks

Externally, there are 2 different 6131 remotes. There's the original design that you have, and the newer slimline design, which they call the URC-6131N (or URC-6131Nw for the Walmart version).

The 6131 ships without an EEPROM, so I sell modified 6131s where I have soldered in a 2k EEPROM. Some people have sent in their store bought 6131s to UEI to have upgrades added. When these remotes come back, they typically have 1k EEPROMs installed.

The 6131 uses a different format for keymoves based on whether you have an extender installed.

So, the different versions are...

URC-6131 w/2k EEPROM and no extender
URC-6131 w/1k EEPROM and no extender
URC-6131 w/2k EEPROM with extender
URC-6131 w/1k EEPROM with extender

URC-6131N w/2k EEPROM and no extender
URC-6131N w/1k EEPROM and no extender
URC-6131N w/2k EEPROM with extender
URC-6131N w/1k EEPROM with extender

The two possible choices for you are...
URC-6131 w/2k EEPROM and no extender
URC-6131 w/2k EEPROM with extender

I can vouch for the "6131(old) 2K" part, but I don't know if you're using an extender, and if so, which version.

How easy would it be for me to upgrade a non-JP1 6131 to JP1? I have a 6131 that I bought from Circuit City and would like to be able to program it. Is it worth it to even bother with it?

(By the way, I currently have another 6131 that IS JP1 that I bought from Surf Remote, as well as a cable. But now I want to program another one for the bedroom)
