Can my old JP1 cable be adapted to my new PC's ports?

Hi.

I bought a JP1 cable about two years ago (maybe a little more) to upgrade my URC-6131. It's a 25-pin (serial?) type -- two rows of pins. I've since gotten a new computer and just realized that I have no way to attach this JP1 cable. This newer Dell laptop only has USB and VGA (15-pin) inputs ...

Here's your upgrade...
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1923

I've used TV mode for this file, so as not to confuse people that might download it, but in order for you to be able to load many more functions into the upgrade, you should change it to a mode that ...

I don't have my TV setup PIP/POP enabled -- you have to input into non-HD sources -- so I can't test those. But looking at the original remote, I'm pretty sure that your hunch is correct.

If you post your IR file in the Diagnosis Area (and then post a link to it), one of us can convert the UEI upgrade into an upgrade file. You shoudl also have been given a list of advanced codes by UEI, if so could you please include that also.
Here is what you asked for:

I feel really stupid saying this, but I don't understand what you mean by the
Diagnosis Area. Is that a forum here that I haven't located?

UEI told me that the setup code for Optoma TVs was 0887, which they went ahead and programmed into the remote when I sent it in for the upgrade. However, they ...

Sure, I can try to help. But remember, I'm pretty clueless about this stuff. I'm going to keep tweaking my 6131 and asking naive questions, if you don't mind.

ceekay,

I know it's a hassle, but send it in. I sent in my 6131 because I bought a Pioneer VSX-1014 and found the remote next to useless.

Once I got upgraded -- and installed an upgrade from the file section of this forum using a JP1 cable -- the 6131 was awesome. It does everything the original ...

One thought, which you may choose to use or ignore: In your very well-written "JP1 - Just How Easy Is It?" primer, one line that threw me is the last directive of the section "How Do You Load an Upgrade": You wrote, "Don't forget to assign the new setup code that you created to an actual device ...

Robman --

Wow. You really went the extra mile with that post. And it paid off!
My upgrade is now working perfectly. Thank you so much for your time and effort. This stuff is finally starting to sink in. I went into the Buttons sheet and assigned AUTO SURR. It works! :D

Bingo. You're a genius. I deleted those and the keys now work. Awesome! :D

Um, maybe.
I pasted the device upgrade and the protocol to IR.
Then I assigned the upgrade to the device key with 1023/AUD.
Then I uploaded to my remote.

Was that the wrong order?
What was the device mode and setup code of the upgrade when it was still in KM?

It sounds like what you did was ...

First glance at that .ir file, I see you have a bunch of KeyMoves using audio/0300 and audio/0013 defined for the AUD device mode.

I assume those are left over from some previous attempt at getting your device working. But until you remove them, they override the new setup code.

The other AUD ...

Whatever the case, I went ahead and redid it. This time, I assigned the upgrade to the device key first, then edited ...
