David:

As is posted in almost every thread about this (including this one), you may want to check out the 8810w from Wal-Mart.

(Edited for politeness, sorry...)

IR remembers the last remote selected when reopened, which is great if you only have one JP-1 remote, but if you have more than one, and they are different models, it requires more caution and being alert.

Funny question: Would it make more sense for IR.exe to remember the last .txt file used ...

Thanks for clearing it up. I didn't know if the 6131 had an EEPROM or not out of the box, which is why I asked. (Note the original questions...)

Nice, thanks for the link.

On the 6131's: You mention that you add the JP1 header, but do you also add the 2k EEPROM?

If not, how much EEPROM is in there 'stock', and can it be used for JP1 without it?

You are correct. I actually just downloaded the ext2 a few days ago, but I read all the docs thoroughly before trying the install, and so I was fully prepared to make the macros myself. In fact, when I went into IR to start in on it, I saw that all the device buttons had macros that referenced ...

Just a quick point to Steve's post: If you do go learn the store's remote, try the learned codes out before you go home (if possible)... hate to have to go back! ;)

Rob: Silly question, but where on your site are the modified 6131's available for sale? I want to provide a link for someone who's interested.

Sounds like Vol + is a good learn, Vol - is not, and the new system uses the same protocol as Sony TVs ;)

This is an untrained opinion though...

Have you tried using the Sony remote? What happens when you press Volume + on that? I would assume the TV and the new unit would both respond. I would ...

Does the 2103 have a 6-pin interface? If so have you posted your IR.exe dump to the Yahoo! group, as requested?

If you've learned the button "Volume Up", and the learned key works to turn up the volume on the device in question, you're halfway to getting it all working, assuming you have a JP1 ...

Yes you can
Great, I will try then. I just didn't want my macros to be messed up! ;)

Is it safe to just replace the RDF files I've been using thus far with the newer ones?

I ran a diff on the various RDFs, and it seems that the newest version has a few buttons named differently, and not much else.

Posted to the Yahoo JP1 group (in the User Configurations folder) as "RS 15-2117 Extender 2 -- ToadTogs Example.txt"

Direct link

It's kinda screwy. I still haven't gone back to clean it up.

One thing that almost got me: It seems that one of the RDF files that comes with the Extender download is ...

Happened to get that banner when reading this page.

No it doesn't work, it opens something in the banner area still.

The url linked from the image/banner is to "http://www.shavenferret.com/scripts/%20target="

Looks like you might have forgotten to terminate the URL string?
