Nils is right, it is very trivial change to ASM file, all you have to do is remove "CALL LCDoff" line under L40: label and then assemble it using s3c8asm.exe (You will find this tool in the jp1/files/Programs directory at the very end).
C:\JP1> s3c8asm custom_8910ex1.asm -Acustom_8910ex1.hex ...

The "buzzing" sound is from the invertor, this remote uses electrolumiscent back-light which actually runs on high voltage AC power. Invertor converts DC to high voltage AC power. Consequently this kind of light is more power hungry.

Even after this fact about back-light, batteries should last for ...

Bye the way, you are right about the Pause protocol. There is some problem with this protocol in 8910 extender. I have downloaded the procol saperately from Yahoo file section and "edited" the protocol $01F8 of the extender. Here is the protocol:

00 00 01 08 03 18 03 F6 01 0D AF

This will result ...

Thanks, Nils.. Your solution worked like a charm!! The LCD display stays ON all the time after I removed "CALL LCDoff" line in the L40: routine. (line #633)

I guess the battery should last just as long because LCDs are typically very low drain hardware. And even if it does drain the battery, I am ...

The documentation is included with extender and the name of file is CustomModeName.txt. Please read through it. If you don't see that file then your extender may not have CustomeMode name protocol with it.

Always display custom name in 8910 extender

I want to keep the custom name ON all the time on the LCD. How do I do that? I am willing to change the ASM for the CustomName protocol.

Thanks,

Re: 8910/9910 Extender Comments/Questions

The documentation for the Custom Name protocol indicates that each name must have 9 bytes - even if one just wants to display, say, "TV". This seems like a real waste of valuable macro/keymove memory. (I suspect this is a limitation of the remote itself, but I thought I should raise the issue ...

Use the EFC/HEX for any function "twice" in the macros, LKP, etc and it will work just fine.

So far as I know the extenders affect duration of keys used in macros and do not affect the duration of keys used outside macros

If this is true then you can do this:

For all the macros, LKP, TOADs, etc, Use the EFC/HEX "twice" and that should take care of "in-macro" behavior. I have tried this ...
