JD4x4, I am not going to swallow your bait on starting a GUI/File Manager discussion. ..
:?: I guess the interface has been a sore subject in the past?

Anyway, it wasn't 'bait', it was a comment that new & novice Linux users might have difficulty under at least Ubuntu. I'm not a java nor ...

I am not sure what "'see' beyond the root dir" means.
Under Unix-oid operating systems, like Linux, you mount foreign file systems, making them to appear within the (one and only) root file system, like /net/other-machine. The whole theme is quite complex, and, here, offtopic, so I suggest that ...

@JD4x4: You do not need any wrapper at all, just something like
java -jar "/pathname possibly with spaces/RemoteMaster.jar" -h "/pathname possibly with spaces"
should do the trick.
Using that in either terminal or the Run Application dialog does in fact launch either prog, however for ...

Linux Shell Script (wrapper) info

Barf- thanks for the replies to my other issues in the other threads. I'm posting this here since it applies to v2.02, although it also applies to v2.01.

I don't know if it was intentional (I don't think so) but the Linux shell script 'rmaster.sh' does not include '-rm' at the very end of the ...

Ubuntu 11.04 resolved

I've sorted out my Linux problem and posted it in another thread in the beginners forum along with some other discussion. But, for the sake of Linux issue continuity here is my post. If cross-posting some of it here is a problem just let me know-

Seems that the shell scripts worked under Xubuntu 6 ...

You may be right about Autodetect, I can't remember my sequence of events but I've had this problem happen on both RM versions 2.01 and 2.02. (Version 2.0 seems to work right out of the box). I noticed in both cases that my remote was 'stuck', i.e. key presses would not light the power button led ...

OK...reinstalled everything carefully. RM and RM IR load. I still get the 'No RDF matches signature starting (block symbols)' in the RMIR after it appears to download from the remote.

Thoughts?
I got the exact same message at the exact same spot when I finally got RM running under Linux. The ...

Thanks to both of you (vickyg2003 & Robman). That clears it up nicely for me.

I may not be runnin' with the big dogs, but at least I don't feel like I'm chewin' up stuff with the puppies anymore.

Digitmaps.bin is part of the RM2.01 distribution. On Windows systems, it is kept in the same directory as the jar file. but so is prococols.ini. Maybe you need to copy digitmaps.bin to the same location as your protocols.ini file, since that seems to be different in Ubuntu.
Thanks.
I'm an idiot ...

There's probably a clue to what is going wrong at the end of the rmaster.err file.
Thanks for the super-quick reply..
The file ends with "java.io.FileNotFoundException: /home/jim/digitmaps.bin (No such file or directory)" and a rackload of indented lines following it..

I don't see such a file in ...

v2.01 & Ubuntu 11.04 Problem

Hi, I'm a newb with Linux so bear with me.. but When I run the .jar file with OpenJDK Java 6 Runtime on my Ubuntu 11.04, I get the prompts to locate the Map & RDF locations, and when protocols.ini is in the dir with the .jar file it can't find it and asks where it is. Once I point to the .ini file ...

Protocol, device and sub device comes from the setup code, the function comes from the Hex decoded from the EFC.
Ahh.. got ya, I think.
So on the left side of your graphic, 'Setup Code's Fixed Data' = (Device:, Sub-device:, Protocol:) as input along with the hex to generate the signal output ...

So for the 'visual learners' here (like me), if we take vickyg2003's excellent overview graphic of the process and use: 'Decoded' = (Device:, Sub-device:, Protocol:, and function) in the top 'Decoded' box, Data byte(s) as Hex as the output of decoded into the Protocol Executor, and (binary signal ...

Thanks again Rob, and xnappo. I'm learning as we speak/type

My devices (at the moment.. I have more for later!) are a Sceptre X23GV Komodo TV and a Symphonic (Funai) SE426D, which I think (so far) aren't quite perfect fits with the current km & rm files I've found. I can't swear I've found them ...

Thanks Rob. I clearly have a LOT to learn, but I thought I must be overlooking something because it seems like copying learned signals from ir would be a frequent operation when trying to create an rdmu file.

Am I going about this wrong, maybe? I have a HD TV and also a VCR that I want to custom ...
