Thanks, sti491. I had read your post and even printed it out. I found a lot of useful tidbits in there.

Now the bad news. Since getting the cable, and getting the devices working, I started tinkering on the macros to tie it all together. That's when I was made aware that she isn't "comfortable ...

Not sure why you're using IR, ...

It was the first thing that came up here:
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1009
And the description made sense. Both KM and RM descriptions say, "Once loaded into *M, these are copied into IR to upload to the remote."

What should I use, please?

Wow! You guys snuck in here while I wasn't looking. Sorry for the absence. I was off playing Arduino while waiting for the JP1.x cable.

I hope I didn't make a mistake. I cheaped out and bought one of these:

Thank-you, kindly. Exactly what I was looking for.

Unfortunately, the Yamaha is being obstinate about turning back on. I guess I'll have to wait for the cable.

On the upside, you've given me plenty of other things to play with.

Guidance setting up new RCRP05BR, please?

New RCRP05BR. A cable is "in the mail."

My devices are:

Television: Samsung LN46A650
Amplifier: Yamaha HTR-4064
Blu-Ray: Panasonic DMP-BD60
Media box: Roku 3
Media Box: Amazon Fire TV + Flirc

The first code from the list for the LN46A650 (0812) turns it on and off. I haven't tried to figure out ...

I'm back. But because I couldn't resist, I bought an RCA RCRP05BR so I'm starting a new thread for assistance.

In particular, 'Tip' half way down P25 describes FAV macros, which may be a convenient way of providing easy access commands of the type which 3FG suggested... AHA! (Don't you just love Eureka moments! :D )
As many times as I've read that, it never occurred to me that I might be able to put a ...

Well I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve. LOL! Neither am I.

3FG may have helped me realize that what I'm trying to do with the MX may not be practical or even possible.

I understand that I can *probably* get the Kameleon to do anything and everything I'd want it to. And I'm confident I ...

What model remote kameleon do you have?
Hi, Vicky.

I have the 15-2133. I think it's the only one on the planet that rivals the IR output of the MX-500.

I've used it in the past to teach the MX discrete on/off codes for the TV, etc..
So I have fundamental idea of what I have to do. I'm just ...

I'm not sure where to ask this.

I'm not even sure *how* to ask this...

I have a vintage MX-500 remote which I'm still very partial to.

I have a Fire TV which I bought a Flirc for, so I could control it with the MX-500.

I have a Radio Shack Kameleon 6-in-1.

The MX-500 has no trouble sending commands to the Fire TV. Maybe it ...

Monoprice HDMI switchers.

Hi, Folks.

Looking at the offerings in the file section, I notice there doesn't seem to be any discrete ON/OFF codes for these. Before I go off trying to reinvent a square wheel, is that because these boxes don't accept or can't recognize discrete ON/OF codes?

Specifically, I'm trying to come up ...

Ah. The high-tech approach.

I probably have enough parts scattered about to make several JP1 cables. But as you probably know, the 15-2133 (Is that what you have?) is a bit of a kluge where the batteries/cover/JP1 pins are concerned. I haven't given up yet (I've come so far!), but I getting to ...

15-2133: Starting over.

Vicky,

As is my luck, I was merrily performing a Reset 981 before I read your reply. No harm, no foul. The remote is preprogrammed with the codes for both my DVD player and my amp, so I'm back to where I was. (WHEW!)

I'm starting to feel comfortable with the whole IR/RM scenario. The device code ...
