PUNCH-THROUGH Using Punch-Through Punch-through lets you control two different devices without pressing the device key for each one first. Here's how it works. Not all of the Phone Up 4's keys are used by every device. If you select one device, then select another device that does not use all of the func- tions, the Phone Up 4 can still control some of the first device's func- tions. For example, a TV is often the only device that uses the volume keys. If you press TV, then press VCR, the volume keys continue to operate the TV, but other keys control the VCR. NOTE: Punch-through does not work if the last two devices you select have the same (or similar) features. For example, most TVs and some cable converters have POWER keys on their remote controls. In this case, you must press the desired device key before you use the Phone Up 4's PWR key. To turn on the Phone Up 4's sleep timer, press SLEEP once. The red light blinks once. Leave the Phone Up 4 pointing at the device. The red light flashes occasionally to remind you that the sleep function has been activated. Press any key other than SLEEP to cancel the sleep timer. (BR/EB 11/8/96)
