How The Phone Up 4 Works Before you begin to use the Phone UP 4, it is helpful to understand a little about how it works - nothing technical, only an idea of what you can expect from the Phone Up 4 and its different groups of keys. When you set up the Phone Up 4, its command keys work like the keys on your original remote controls. For example, a key labeled POWER ON/OFF on your original remote control is equivalent to the Phone Up 4's PWR key. Your Radio Shack Phone Up 4 was designed with the functions used most often to operate your TV, VCR, cable converter, CD player, and DSS satellite receiver. Key Function [VCR] [AUX] Use these device keys when you set up the Phone Up 4 [TV] [CBL] to replace your original remote controls. You also use the device keys during normal operation to tell the Phone Up 4 which device to control. [SETUP] Used in setting up your devices. [PWR] [LAST] (ENTER) These keys, and the digit keys, operate the same as [CHAN /\] (VOL /\] the similarly named keys on your original remote [CHAN \/] [VOL \/) control. (MUTE) (SLEEP) Lets you turn on the Phone Up 4's sleep timer function (or a device's built-in sleep timer). (LIGHT SYMBOL) Lights up your Keypad for use in dark or dimly lit rooms. (SCAN) Lets you easily browse through channels on your TV, VCR, or cable box. (MENU) Operates the same as the menu key on your original remote control. (F1) (F2) (F3) (F4) These keys are for special sequences that you set up. (REW <<) (FAST F >>) These keys control VCR functions. (STOP []) (PLAY >) (PAUSE ||) (REC *) Notes: The Phone Up 4's red light turns on when you press a key and blinks when you enter a feature or manufacturer's code. To use REC record on the Phone Up 4, you must press it twice. This safety feature helps you avoid accidentally erasing video tapes. Depending on your device's features, you might need to press SELECT twice to operate your device. If you use the Phone Up 4 to replace complex remote controls, the Phone Up 4 might not have some of your original remote control's seldom-used functions. A Key on the Phone Up 4 that has the same name as a key on your original remote control might have a slightly different function. (BR/EB 11/8/96) (EB - Rev. 3/17/99)
