Hello,
I found main functions. Here they are. They work well. But I would like to have all the transmitted codes from the RC.
This is RM file saving, I am not very skillfull with KM.

There are a number of Onlyo receiver upgrades in the file section. Click on the File Section link near the top of this page, and look in the Device Upgrades>Audio section.
This upgrade in particular consolidates all of those functions in a single upgrade. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

Capn Trips,
I applied your gently advice, , but i do not get forwad.
I am studying RM, KM, and IR for long time (2 weeks !) Really !
I do like electronic and programming.
I have an old URC-8550 and I built a parallel JP1 cable. It works fine.
Could you give some answers ?
- What are the main differences between RM and KM ? Is RM better ?
- Are codes using Amplitude Modulation different from Phase Modulation ones ?
- What are phantom buttons ?
- In RM what are the buttons named with asterisk ?
- What is Zone-2 ?
- Why does not the RC lite for some just programmed functions ?
- What is a SubDevice ?
Thank you so much ! |

Most of the time it's just a matter of preference and or which one is easier to run but there are some times when one supports something and the other doesn't. Km is the older of the 2 and from my understanding is harder to add support for new remotes because they have to be hard coded in. RM is newer and uses RDFs for remotes and uses nice image maps to assign functions if you want but ultimately the results of both should be the same.

Phantom buttons are buttons that exist logically in the remote but don't have any actual physical button on the remote. They can be very handy for putting macros or additional functions on that are accessed by something on the remote.

If memory servers buttons with asterisks will be generated as key moves because they aren't a basic part of the upgrade.

The sub device is part of a protocol that allows multiple different devices to use the same protocol with out confusing each other. Roughly the same thing as setting the ID switches for your garage door opener. |

Evan_S,
Thank you.
Do you mind my re-asking those ones please.

During learning operation, does the learning RC store
- the protocol,
- the device code,
- the EFC function code,
- and what else ?
and is it always successfull ? |

I know i skipped this the first time but I realized what you where asking about. Zone 2 on receivers is a situation where they can use some of their speakers (usually the back surround that make them a 7.1 amp) to play different content in another room. You'd run some long speaker cables to a different room and could use the zone 2 to listen to the radio or a CD player hooked up to the receiver.

I'll try this again. When a IR signal is sent it has some charactertics. The Device and sub-device code are just value's that make it specific to the device it's trying to control instead.
Think of the device as a phone number. Often times thats all you need to get to a particular person but sometimes you need more information. The sub-device is like an extension. Adds a little bit more information so a specific device can tell the commands are for it.

When you learn on a JP1 remote at least, I assume most other remotes are the same, they aren't decoding it like that they are just recording the signal exactly as is. Light is on for 10ms, off for 25, on for 25 etc. When you download from the remote IR automatically tries to decode the signal and present it in a way that means something to us but it's just a recording of the IR signal just like a tape records music and doesn't convert it to a score of the music. |

|
|
One more thing: as a beginner, 3 weeks ago, I thought it will be easy to restore factory parameters, so I made a wrong UpLoad, without having the remote memory backup on my PC. I would like to restore all factory codes.
I just read this on this forum:
" I connected the Pins 3 and 5 of the JP1-Connector to Reset, but nothing happens. I solved the Problem by Pressing the ON-Button during re-inserting the Batteries. "
Is it a true idea ? What is the ON-button on a remote ? |
