Hi, really new at this stuff. I have OFA 8810 and ordered a DIY JP1 to usb. The computer recognizes there is something in the usb port, but can't find the software for it (not that I have any). Then it says it may not work properly.
Of course, when I plug in the remote and hit download, it either says "can't open jp1.x interface" or some other error message. I looked at the other threads with this problem but can't seem to find the answer.
Also, it says there's no driver to for the usb, though I've downloaded usbiods.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Before you even open IR, make sure you've installed the usbiods driver by plugging in your cable, choosing which driver to load, and navigating to the usbiods files. Then, assuming you have the latest IR installed, pick "JP1 USB" (not JP1.x) from the Interface menu when you open IR.

Thanks again, your advice was right on.
Unfortunately, now it says "sda being held low, check batteries."
I read the post on the batteries - I took them out, reversed a few, and then even put in brand new ones - all the same. Any ideas?
Thx.

Battery tricks only apply to the Simple Parallel interface, not to any other (including the USB).

First try turning the cable the other way around where it plugs into the remote. If that doesn't work, uninstall the driver and try
THIS older version. If you're using Vista, you may be out of luck as the driver seems to be pretty hit or miss. Try an XP machine if possible.

When my machine finds new hardware I have the same problem..when I point to the USB directory it says it can't find the software. I've tried the connector both ways on the remote and still nothing. Also the driver I have is the old one from 2006....should I try the new one and where is it? Grr this is frustrating! Thanks guys!
I have the gray comcast remote 1067a ...how do I know if my remote is compatible with the USB cable?

"the USB" cable is a misonmer, since now there are USB cables for both JP1 and JP1.2/1.3 (and also JP1.1/1.2) remotes. If I recall correctly, the Comcast 1067A is a JP1.2 remote, so you need to get the correct "USB cable".
Check the Marketplace forum and look at Tommy Tyler's sticky post to order the correct one.
