Sounds like you need to get yourself a learning JP1 remote before your OEM remote goes dead. Even if you can't learn ALL of the buttons, getting the crucial Protocol/Device info decoded will make it much easier to discover those codes that don't work any more on the OEM remote.

I presume you have read the various beginner's documents (link below in my sig). If there is too much too digest, I would point you to this section of the "How Easy is it?" doc.

Regardless, you will need a learning JP1 remote (I assume you don't want a JP1.x, since then you'd need a different cable to download from it). Check the marketplace section to see if anybody is selling an 8910 or 8811 or one of those older learning JP1 models.

As an alternative, if you have basic electronic skills (which I do NOT), you can build a simple IR signal capture device, and learn your signals and decode them without using another remote. The hardware and software are described here.

I've used an old VCR and a parallel port on a PC to capture IR signals as well. Just hook up 2 wires(Vout and GND) to the VCR IR sensor pins.
