please help me get advanced codes working with RCA TV PIP

Post by stanwebber »

1. Device: RCA F35673MB
2. Type of device: TV
3. Year: old/discontinued
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: URC 3021
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? n/a
6. Still have original remote? no
7. Checked the file section? n/a
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? n/a
9. Partially working setup code? 0047
10. Learning remote question? n/a

i am perfectly happy with this basic remote controlling my TV, DVD player, stereo receiver in all aspects except for one. no button is natively mapped to the TV PIP function and this remote has no learning or key mover capabilities. However, i browsed the advanced codes section of this site and discovered i can manually issue codes (218, 020) to toggle and swap the PIP function (arrow keys even move PIP window). considering how seldom i use this feature i can tolerate a few extra keypresses to toggle the PIP on and off; however, even with these working codes i still have problems.

i can successfully toggle PIP on and off, swap the PIP and main viewing window back and forth, and move the PIP window to all 4 quadrants. the problem is when i change channels it changes both in the PIP window AND main viewing area. suffice to say this makes watching 2 different channels impossible. the only reason i know the PIP swap code works is because i can change the main viewing area to input1 and swap it to the PIP window. does anyone have any key codes, combinations or suggestions on how to get PIP independant channel selection working on this remote? thanks

i've tried everything (and i mean everything) i can think of with the following advanced codes:
218 PIP On/Off
072 PIP Recall
023 PIP Source
020 PIP Swap
114 PIP Move
226 PIP Multi
229 PIP Channel Control

You can probably assign a keymove for the 218 and 020 to the appropriate PIP keys on your remote. I'm not familiar with your remote, but many of the JP1 remotes allow a keymove to be assigned to the keys, and to the shifted version of the keys.

Is it only the Ch+ and CH- that control both tuners? Or do the numbers change both tuners too?

Does that 229 effect both tuners?

the URC 3021 is a non-JP1 remote, no key mover or learning functions

pressing numbers changes the channel on both tuners as well. code 229 has no discernible effect that i can tell. i'm wondering if even buying a newer remote will solve the problem at this point

This link goes theoretically to a download page for your manual. It doesn't work on my office computer due to security settings, but from reading the info on the page, you should be able to register and get the pdf of the manual from there.

Good luck.

If it is an older TV, probably is a single tuner PIP. RCA didn't do much with the 2 tuner stuff (usually on high end equipment)..
Also, on the simpler sets, only a limited number of PIP commands were implemented.

Well, it's not SUPER old, since the manual indicates it's a 2003 LCD model.
