Easy solution.
1. Lose the Comcast remote. It just doesn't have enough flexibility..
2. For $10-15, get an Atlas 5 day with learning. You can then set it up to do everything you want without resorting to JP1, using the learning feature (it has a huge learning memory).
3. It is custom key compatible with your Comcast DVR (Motorola, I assume), and will work much better than the original.
BTW: I have a couple of extra ones..... PM me |

It worked!!!
The 9-9-4 key move worked!! YIPPEE!!
Thanks for all the help.
One question, related to the remote memory, if I wanted to clear
everything out of the AUX to release the memory, what would
I have to do. I am assuming it is probably just a code to wipe
out all.

johnsfine,
In the 10th or 11th post, on the first page of this thread, you made the statement below.
Can you tell me a little about the 990 process?

Do we know the correct setup code for the CBL mode? Some of the symptoms described earlier imply not. Maybe the 990 process on the CBL button is called for.

Evan's link leads to the 9-8-1 MFR reset instructions - which you do NOT need here. I don't believe that was what John was referring to.
Hokie, these UEIC remotes respond to a number of different programming commands, most of which are not documented in the Comcast remote manual. We have demonstrated this with the 994 Keymover programming code. There are a BUNCH of such codes, documented on the same page that I linked for you regarding the 994 command. Amongst those is the 990 "Code Check" command. It simply allows you to check what setup code is assigned to each device button. John suggested using it when there was some doubt about what you had programmed to the CBL and/or AUX buttons, but you don't really need it now. Quote: | Blinking Back the Code:
PRESS the device, (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.), button - RELEASE
PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
PRESS 9 - 9 - 0.
PRESS 1, carefully COUNT the number of blinks. (1st digit)
PRESS 2, carefully COUNT the number of blinks. (2nd digit)
PRESS 3, carefully COUNT the number of blinks. (3rd digit)
PRESS 4, carefully COUNT the number of blinks. (4th digit)
If the remote DOES NOT blink it means the number is 0.
This is your 4-digit setup code. |
There are a bunch of these programming commands that you can access after a long press of the setup key. Many will not work on many remotes (like YOUR remote is not a learning remote)
970=Activate/deactivate "Sleep" Key
973=Channel Control Lock
975=learn code
976=clear learned code
979=Program HT mode
980=Ops reset
981=MFR reset
982=Cable ID Lock
990=Code "Blinkback"
991=Code Search
992=Device Key reassignment
993=Volume Control Lock
995=Macro Programming
996=Scan program
997=Activate Modem Upgrade mode
There are others. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

You might want to avoid the 980 and 981 also. I haven't studied the comcast remotes, but some of the other cable remotes, like the Atlases, may not operate your cable equipment if you do a 980 or a 981 command. |

to clear the advanced codes from the AUX device only:
1. press and hold SET for two blinks
2. enter 9 9 4
3. press the AUX key
4. press the AUX key again _________________ Edmund |

Again, thanks all for sharing your knowledge. It is nice to get the
warnings too...
I really appreciate the undocumented codes. I have a feeling I will
be playing around a lot with my remote and will need to know
how to reset it....
I do plan to eventually upgrade my remote. As I mentioned in
another thread, I want a remote that will allow me to assign for example
the HD CBS channel of 707 to just one key as my standard CBS selection
is now. Someone mentioned the possibility of programming a key to
where a gentle press say of number 6 would give me the SD CBS station
and a firmer press of number 6 would give me the HD CBS station. I
like that.
Hokie... |

Look into something like the RF20 or RF30, the Rf20 has 8 pages of CH favorites, macros. 8 pages x 5 per page= 40 ch macros. Where the RF30 has 5 pages of 8 FAVs= 40.
I used to put websites on my FAV macros for use with my webtv. _________________ Edmund |

I'm having a similar problem as va tech hokie and tried to do the 994 thing. I posted below this message for help on another forum. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hello, I bought a new TV and was working with 3 remotes (TV, cable, receiver) when I decided I would try to get the Comcast DVR remote to control all 3. I had no problem getting it to control the TV but I'm having trouble with the auxiliary device (receiver). The remote controls the power function of the receiver but I can't get it it to control the volume. Initially, after programming the TV, the volume buttons by default controlled the TV. I attempted to do the 993 volume lock on the receiver but then the volume buttons by default didn't work for anything. I assume they locked to the receiver but won't work to control its volume for some reason.
I then found some online instructions [that was from here] about key moves using 994. I tried that and now the volume buttons control the cable box's volume (which I didn't realize existed). Does anyone know of a way to get the volume buttons (and mute) to work with my receiver (RCA brand)? Thanks for any help. I'm a complete novice. |

What code did you use for the RCA receiver, AUX 1023 or 1254? _________________ Edmund |

Can't remember 100%. But I'm pretty sure it was 1023. |

If it does respond to pioneer code, there is a pioneer code that lacks volume commands and the keys are blank, that is code 0080.
If were code 1023, it doesn't take advanced codes, so can't use the 994 keymover feature _________________ Edmund |

MaskedMan,
Are you suggesting that there simply may not be a solution? How can I find out? Thanks. |

No, I would make sure you're using code 1023, and not code 0080 without volume commands.
Than try just unlocking the volume in that device:
1. AUX
2. press and hold setup for two blinks
3. 9 9 3
4. press VOL DOWN _________________ Edmund |
