|
|
I would like to program my Comcast Custom DVR 3 device so the
AUX key controls the volume for my Yamaha receiver and still have
the channel button change channels on my cable box.
I do have the AUX button programmed to control my receiver, but
cannot get the channel button to change channels on the cable box.
I would really apprciate any help you might be able to give to me.
Thanks very much! Hokie..

The simplest solution is to set the volume lock to the Aux. Then just select the cable device. Everything but Volume up/down and mute will be cable box and those will be your Aux device.
From the manual which can be found online at http://www.comcast.com/corporate/customers/customer_support/remotes.html
Quote: | Locking Volume Control To TV or AUX Mode:
1. Press and hold SETUP until the Red light flashes twice, then release SETUP.
2. Enter 9 - 9 - 3 (Red light will flash twice).
3. Press and release either TV or AUX (Red light for selected device will flash twice). |

Thanks Evan S, I will give this a try. I knew there had to be a simple
way... |

OK, I did what Evan S suggested, but it did not work. I would like
to assign the AUX key of the Comcast Custom DVR 3 to control
volume of my receiver and change channels of the STB.
Here is what I did:
The AUX key was programmed for my Yamaha receiver. After
doing the setup, I could control the volume of the receiver with the
Comcast Custom DVR 3 remote.
I then followed the procedure to lock the volume. I pressed the aux key,
then I held the setup key until the red light flashed 2 times. I entered
9-9-3, red light flashed twice then I pressed the Aux key.
Next, I pressed the AUX key, pressed setup and held that until AUX key
flashed 2 times. I then entered the cable box code, lights flashed
correctly and then I pressed the power key as directed in the instructions.
After doing this, I can press the AUX key and control the volume of
the Yamaha with the volume button, but I cannot get any response with
the channel button. I would like to change cable box channels also.
Thanks, Hokie |

Needed to stop here. Leave aux programed for the Yamaha and just hit the cable device button up on the top. |

What devices are you controlling with the other two device buttons?
The feature you just asked for sounds like the "Channel Control Lock" feature of the remote, not the "Volume Control Lock". But for Channel Control Lock to do that, you need the correct setup code assigned to the CBL key.
The feature Even was describing would make the AUX vol keys work in TV and CBL mode, which isn't exactly what you asked for. You want the CBL's channel keys to work in AUX mode. That is "Channel Control Lock".
Read the manual. |

johnsfine,
I am controling the cable box with the cable button and the TV with
the TV button. Both the TV button and the cable button use the voluime
button to control the TV volume and the channel up/down button to
control the channel of the cable box.
I want the AUX to control Yamaha volume and cable box channel.
So, are you saying I should program the AUX button first
for the cable and then lock the channel. Then make sure the AUX volume
button is not locked and then program the AUX button with the
Yamaha receiver code.
Thanks, Hokie |

No. I think you are misunderstanding the meaning of "lock".
"Lock" means that certain keys in one device mode use the setup code of some other device button.
So you want channel lock to that TV mode and AUX mode both use the channel keys that are defined by the setup code of the CBL button.
You want partial volume lock so that the CBL mode uses the TV's vol keys, but the AUX mode uses its own vol keys.
I would need to reread that pdf file carefully to get the exact sequence to set up the locks that way. I expect you can read that just as well yourself.
Each device button is programmed with only one setup code. For what you want to do, you never want to program the AUX button with the CBL's setup code. The AUX button is programmed with its own setup code. You set up channel lock so the AUX mode gets its channel keys as if it were CBL mode. |

OK, let's clarify what you are asking for:
In CBL mode: you want CH+/- to control the CBL box and VOL+/- to control the TV;
In TV mode: you want CH+/- to control the TV and VOL+/- to control the TV;
In AUX mode: you want CH+/- to control the CBL box and Vol+/- to control your AUX device (Yamaha)
Am I right?
I think what you want cannot be done (as I read the manual).
Here's what I would do:
FIRST - assign whatever device you want to be associated with that device button TO that device button.(I think that you have already done this)
i.e. assign your Yamaha to the Aux button;
assign your cable box to the CBL button;
assign your TV to the TV button.
Then first deal with the Volume:
(a) Set Volume control lock to your TV;
(b) Set INDIVIDUAL Volume Control UNLOCK on Aux.
(the instructions are HERE)
As for the channels, it appears that you cannot individually unlock channel control lock, so that if youassign Channel control lock to CBL, it will do so in ALL modes, including TV. If you UNLOCK CBL Channel Control, then you will not have Channel control on CBL for any device other than CBL.
So as I see it you have one chance, and it relies on your remote having undocumented Keymover capabilities. Try the 9-9-4 command to keymove your CBL channel control functions to the AUX mdoe channel control buttons.
If you want to do this for CH+, CH-, Last or Prev Ch, and all of the numbers, it'll take some time, but maybe it'll work. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

So he should just need to make sure that each of the three devices is setup correctly, channel lock is turned on. Then turn on Volume lock and set it to the tv but set the individual volume control unlocked on AUX. This should result in what he's looking for as I see it.
For some reason it sounds like it was already setup that way in his first post but the channel lock wasn't working. Looking at the manual again the channel lock is only for the TV device not the AUX device so he will need to try using key moves to simulate that behavior. |

I do want things to work like Evan S described..
I have read the manual very well, several times in area for the
keys lock and unlock and I have tried several variations and
I still cannot get AUX to volume control my yamaha and channel control
the cable box.

I read carelessly and missed that important detail.

I don't see the 9 9 4 process for keymoves documented in that manual. Do we know whether it works?
How many channel keys are needed in AUX mode? That could be a lot of keymoves.
How manu Yamaha keys are needed in AUX mode? Maybe keymoves the other way would be better (that would require changing another device key's setup code twice during programming).
Do we know the correct setup code for the CBL mode? Some of the symptoms described earlier imply not. Maybe the 990 process on the CBL button is called for.
In other models of remote the process for the reverse keymoves would be:
1) Program the TV device button with the Yamaha setup code.
2) Repeat steps 3 to 8, once for each Yamaha key required in AUX mode
3) Long press of setup
4) Key in 9 9 4
5) Press TV
6) Press the desired function key
7) Press AUX
8) Press the desired function key. (should double blink)
9) Program the TV device button back to its own setup code
10) Program the AUX device button to the CBL's setup code

Yes, I feel the very first time I programmed the AUX button,
it should have worked, because I thought the channel key
would have been locked to control the cable box and the
volume key would have controlled the volume of the AUX device. |

You're still misunderstanding what "channel lock" means. Of course I was also misunderstanding it earlier, but not by as much. |

OK, my understanding of channel lock...
Assuming all device buttons are equal, if the channel key is locked globally or for the specific device button, such as AUX, then regardless of which device you are using, when you use the channel +/- key, it only switches channels on the cable box.
Is this correct? |
