The 1056BC IS the silver variant.
The black one is the 1056.
The 1056BC is the only one that I am aware that has been seen with backlighting.
I'm waiting to receive 2 of them, as right now I have only 6 others, all black and not backlit (1x1054, 1x1055 (102510250), 1x1055 (30003000), and 4x1056s). So I guess my hoard is not big by ANY standard. Heck, Rob bought a lot of 14 or so of them some time ago.
The Atlas extender status as I know it:
1054 JP1 (SA_7SA_7) has an extender for the basic 1K EEPROM version. I'm not sure if it has been duplicated for the 2K (modified) remote;
1055 JP1.2 (10251025) has an extender just released by Vicky;
1055 JP1.3 (30003000, 30323032, and 30333033) do not yet have extenders, but unclemiltie has said he is working on one for the 30003000.
1056 JP1.3 (30333033) has no extender, but I have sent a remote to unclemiltie who is working on an extender for it as well as the 1055 (30003000) as mentioned above. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

Doh! It wasn't my 14 Atlases, it was a box full of comcast remotes, but they were not the ones that were pictured, signature 30393039, so I'm assuming they are JP1.3s. Darn and drat. |

Are the newer ones with the red select button? Otherwise they are probably older jp1 remotes would be my guess. |

In the Land of the Blind, the One-Eyed-Man is King - or, by the standards of you guys, I'm completely sane - only 3 8820s, 3 8910s, a 7562, a 7560, a 7552, a 8850 (or is it 8550? - the thing's in bits) and a Kameleon 8040. I also have a couple of UET609s - no learning and definitely not JP1 but they do have have 57 buttons and I wondered about grafting the innards of a genuine JP1 remote into one of them and just keeping the keyboard and IR emitter. |

Yes Underquark, definately sane in this group. I have way too many remotes. Of the JP1 variety 4 Cinema7s , 4 urc6131, 4 urc6011, 4 urc8810, 2 urc8910, 1 urc9910, 1 kameleon 6960B??, 2 cox navigators, 1 cox??, of the JP1.2 variety 2 urc8820, 1 urc6690, 1 Comcast 1067, 10 Atlas 1025s and of the JP1.3 variety 10 comcast 3039s, 1 Atlas 3000, 1 Atalas 3032 and this doesn't include the 14 unidentied Atlases in the mail. All this to control 3 tvs! Yes underquark you are definately saner than some of the people posting here.
Evan, yes the 3039's are the new Red OK/Select. They did not have a red ok select in the picture. All the signatures that I've seen that start with 30 have been JP1.3 remotes, so that's probably what I've got. |

I guess I'm the sanest. I have a 1994 in the guest room, a 2117 in the MBR, and a 2116 and 6131 (soon to be 8820) in the LR. The only reason I have 2 in the LR is my wife likes the large, backlit 2116 with its simpler layout.
I do have a 1994, 8910, 9910, extra 6131, and soon-to-be 2nd 6131 in a box, waiting to throw away or sell.
Why do you folks need so many remotes, or hang on to so many you no longer use? Just wondering. |

Yeee--HaaaH! Just received my URC-1056BCs. (Atlas OCAP (Silver)).
They look MUCH better than the "Butt-ugly" (to borrow garypen's colorful description) black Atlases. Who knew that simply a color change can make that much of a difference?
The lower half is the same black shell as the regular Atlases and the combination works for me. And as these are OCAPs (with all four color keys), Backlit and Learners, these have immediately become my favorites.
Not butt-ugly at all.
So to pile on to the "Who's got more" discussion:
2xRS 15-1994s
2xRS 15-2117s
1xOFA URC-8910s (arrow buttons, no donut ring - gave that to my sister )
2xHTPros (re-colored URC-9910s)
2xOFA URC-6131
1xOFA URC-9960B00
1xAtlas URC-1054 (JP1 w/1K EEPROM)
1xAtlas URC-1055 (JP1.2 10251025, non-learning)
1xAtlas URC-1055 (JP1.3 30003000, learning)
4xAtlas OCAP URC-1056 (non-learning)
2xAtlas OCAP URC-1056BC (learning, backlit)
....so at fewer than 20 UEIC-manufatured remotes, I guess I'm just getting started!
My main HT (and alternate TV room) remotes have been the 8910/HTPros for several years now, with the 8 device buttons, LOTS of buttons in a prett good layout and super extender for customisation, but even with IR now allowing upgrade overflow, I have been running out of memory for my upgrades and Keymoves, Macros, and Special Functions. Also, although the LCD display is cute (I always used the Custom SP to have it display rude messages that nodody ever noticed ) I have come to be ambivalent about the LCD, since I never look at it - nor do the wife and kids.
So I'm looking to get one of these JP1.2 or 1.3 remotes with more memory capacity to handle my future needs. But we LIVE by LKPs, so an extender is essential.
If we get a working OCAP extender, I think it'll be time to switch over to the Atlas as my primary remote(s). The only limitation is the 5-device thing, so I'll have to see if Device Multiplexer gets an acceptable WAF/KAF. Actually, the primary devices are easy (CBL, HD-DVD, VCR, iPod, TV), and the rarely-used ones (Receiver, Laserdisc and multi-region DVD player), can likely be Multiplexed out to 2-button access and I'll probably be OK. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

Sure looks butt ugly to me, still. Main reason I ditched my URC7555 (also you had to cut the connector a bit to fit in the tight JP1.2 hole). |

Anyway, I received the 8820, and there are no sharp edges as some have reported. It's sleek, attractive, and appears to have all of the device and function keys I'll need on a day-to-day basis. It does have a kinda cheaply made look and feel, unfortunately. Oh well. Can't have everything.
You guys have fun with your big pile of remotes. Personally, I switched to these JP1 remotes in order to have LESS remote clutter around the house. I guess I'm doing it wrong. |
