No Fav/Scan button on 15-2116/17 anymore?

I'm trying to load up keymap for my RS 15-2116 and the keymap I downloaded has the Fav/Scan button greyed out.
I've used this in the past for my HD-Tivo but now I can't use it for my D* HR20.
How can I re-enable this button within keymap because I can't use the 'learn' function via the remote for this particular button.
Thanks!

Ok, quick note, I've been playing with this some more and have determined the following:
In KM Setup when the Protocol is changed from Tivo (Advanced) to Manual is when the Fav/Scan button is greyed out on the Button worksheet.
I'm sorry but being a long-time user but still a newbie I don't understand why changing the protocol is removing a button from the Buttons worksheet.
Surely there is some kind of workaround for this?

You're not supposed to be able to program the FAV/SCAN button. The reason that you can when you select the Tivo (Advanced) protocol is because we wrote special code which we added to that protocol that let's you do so.
In your case, you would need to use the
Special Protocols spreadsheet to be able to program a function to it.

Ok, thanks.
I'm sorry I'm so ignorant on this, I hope I can learn how to do this.
I've downloaded RM to give it a try as well. So within RM it shows the Protocol as PID 01 62 and Protocol Parameters Fixed Data as C3
So would I put 01 62 into XX and C3 into Y on the Special Protocls spreadsheet?
Then, where would I paste the information generated?

I just opened an RM file for a DirecTV D10 (I'm guessing that D* means DirecTV, is that right? I know E* means Echo Star) and I see that, for the 15-2116 remote a protocol upgrade is needed.
One of the restrictions listed for the fav/scan protocol in the SP spreadsheet is...
* The protocol works ONLY if the original protocol is in ROM and the Setup Code is in EEPROM.
So, you would need one of the experts to hack the official protocol and add logic to support the fav.scan button.

Might I impertinently suggest that you use the extender? Use of the 2116/2117 extender gives you complete freedom to usae the FAV/SCAN button as a regular old key for any purpose you choose - amongst its many other benefits (faster macros, remapping learning memory to Keymoves/Macros, other Special Protocols, etc.)

Thanks!!
I went to the extender section and learned a ton, it now works like a charm and I've added some new features I never knew I could do.
My only problem now is my upgrade space is virtually gone, only 8 bytes left. I've got everything I need at this point, but is there any hope of re-claiming space for future stuff?
Seems like my D* HR-20 protocol upgrade is the biggest user of space.

How's your keymove/macro memory? If you're using IR 7.03, you can let the upgrade memory overflow into the keymove memory.

Very good, I'll take a lot at that.
Thanks again for all the help!

Ok, I'm sorry to post another dumb question but I've been looking through the JP1 Software section looking for IR7 notes and I also did a forum search for 'overflow'.
I'm not really understanding how you overflow the memory from one area to another.
I'm kind of under the impression from what posts I found that you move it in the raw data tab or am I totally misunderstanding the concept?

IIRC, it happens automatically

It does. Just add your Device and/or Protocol upgrades as necessary. When the Upgrade memory is going to be exceeded, you get a pop-up asking if you want to use Keymove/Macro and/or Learning memory to overflow the upgrade into, and you answer "YES", of course.
IIRC, you will get this pop-up every time you open the resultant IR file, but it's no biggie. Answer "YES" every time.

I tried this workaround, and it seemed to work to put my HR20 list function on the Scan/Fav key on my 15-2117.
I first put the list function on the phantom1 key. For some reason the KM file I used did not work, so I used the Learn IR function on the remote to learn the list function to any key (it doesn't make any difference which key, as you will change it in the next step), and downloaded it to IR.
I then went into Learned Signals tab in IR and edited the learned command and reset the then learned key to phantom1. Then I went to IR's Scan/Fav tab, and selected Add. I set the device to SAT (which is where my HR20 is) and under available keys selected/inserted phantom1, and then OK. I uploaded the result to my remote, and it seems to work!
