playstation ps3 and IR

Post by DavidEC2955 »

I have not purchased one yet...

But unless I can find a source for the "Disney Pirate" movies in HD-DVD... [many "Blue" only in the US discs can be imported in HD-DVD format]

It looks like I will have to also get a "Blue" player...
and most likely it will be a PS-3

Can this device use IR remotes like the JP-1 remotes?

The PS3's out now can not. They have no ir sensor. The ps3 remote that's out is bluetooth. Makes no sense to me why Sony wouldn't put a $0.10 ir sensor in there if they want the PS3 to be the HT package that they seem to.

There is a thread over at AVS somewhere where people have found a work around for this, but I can't find it right now.

There's an article over at Remote Central about the work around:

Thanks for the links!...

Too bad that somebody does not make an 'IR' to 'B-Tooth' set top box like you can get for X-10 devices "IR" to "X10-RF"

ps3 and IR

Post by DavidEC2955 »

I started a thread in the code search area as it looks like I might have to purchase a BlueRay player to keep my wife happy.. {have a Toshiba A20 HD-DVD} and the best deal is the PS3.. only to find that the PS3 currenly does not support IR...

But the PS3 has USB port and I have seen a number of:
USB to IrDA Adapter's for PC's

They seem to be low priced for under $10 at many places.

Anybody here with a PS3 tested one of these devices or read of anybody testing??

It is so they can sell their bluetooth remote, at least for a while.

Well, I've ordered the Nyko IR remote adaptor for the PS3 (from Amazon).

I expect to have it in a week or so (took the cheap shipping). I hope to be able to post an upgrade file shortly afterwards.

From all of my research, it seems that I won't be able to remote-power on the unit, but I can live with that as long as it means not having to watch BluRay movies with the game controller!

Just FYI, if you've been following the AVS thread, here is a JP1 upgrade that replicates the signals in the CCF file that "Rob001" posted for those using the "Logic3" device...

Herbie,
Were you able to program your Nyko BluWave IR remote for the ps3?

I got mine this week. I taught it the basic commands and then ran out of memory on my 9910. Other than that it works great for watching blu-ray movies on the ps3.

Does anybody have a compete upgrade file or would be interested in creating one if I was to mail you the remote?

Thanks
Pablo M

Do you have a JP1 cable?

Download and save the learned IR file, clear th remote, learn some more, download and save again, repeat until you've learned all of the signals, post the learned IR files to th diagnosis are and link to them here.
