1. Device: RCA DRC257N (or DRC257)
2. Type of device: DVD player with HDMI out and upconverting
3. Year: 2006
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: Atlas 1055
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes (homebrew parallel port on Win98SE)
6. Still have original remote? No
7. Checked the file section? yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? yes
9. Partially working setup code? DVD 0822
I picked this up for $20 on clearance at WalMart. (They'd "lost" the remote and HDMI cable and manual.)
This remote doesn't have an open/close button, or a subtile button, or a... there's gonna have to be a bunch of remapping done. What I'd love to do is map a Select button- even though the original remote doesn't have one. The Select button on the front of the player switches between disc playback and playing from the memory card slots.

The RCA site doesn't list a DRC257N, it lists a DRC257. ($@$%ing companies that don't make their website data EXACTLY MATCH what's printed right on their products! 15 years of public access to the web and companies still cannot get that right.)

DVD/0822 uses the RCA protocol Device 5, as does DVD/0522. Have you tried DVD/0522?
Also, you don't mention if you have tried the
DRC-200N upgrade from the file area. I wouldn't have expected it to differ greatly from YOUR unit, but since it uses NEC1:0 rather than RCA:5, I guess it's not a surprise.
You can always try a manual code search (Trying each EFC via "set-1-2-3" when in DVD/0822) but that's time-consuming, and carries some small amount of risk.

I tried 0522 first and it barely works at all. It'll turn it off and on with master power and the Info button, and will STOP playback but the PLAY button doesn't work.
Here's the RCA DVD codes from the remote's manual 0522, 0571, 0822, 1022, 0717
I haven't tried the last two since 0822 was the first one that Play worked on. Going by replies to my thread about the two Atlas (day) 1055 remotes I have, this particular remote still needs some debugging to properly use the JP1 interface for programming.
0822 works the major functions and is useable, but I'd like to duplicate all the functions of the factory remote, plus at least the Select button if that's remotely controllable on this DVD player.

Well, give the other 2 a try. Based on nothing but a hunch, I would expect 1022 to be slightly more robust than 0822.

I hear that. That's why I'm holding off on getting one, although I like the form factor.

As I suggested before:

Once you have identified the EFC that works the function you desire, you should be able to assign it to the key you choose. From the Atlas DVR owner's Manual, it appears that it uses the standard UEIC 99X sequence for accessing programming functions, so although the capability to assign advanced codes is not mentioned in the manual, perhaps the "standard" UEIC remote sequence will work:
Code: Select all
Assigning Advanced Codes
PRESS the device, (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.), button - RELEASE
PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
PRESS 9 - 9 - 4.
PRESS the SETUP button and then the three digit advanced code.
PRESS the button you wish to use for that function - Two Blinks.
NOTE: To assign an advanced code to a 'shift' key, simply press SETUP before pressing the key in step 5 above.

Just tried them and 1022 and 0717 don't work, so for the nonce it'll be 0822.

FYI: The Atlas-5 DVR with Day remote(URC-1055) requires a JP1.2 cable.
