I have been using my JP1 programmed 8910 successfully for a long time. However, I noticed that my Cable Box in particular (Comcast/Motorola).doesn't seem to respond to all button pushes consistently. When I use its own remote it works well. Has anyone noticed this or have any clues?
(I have replaced batteries)
I am using device code 1495. |

Generally, the Device (setup) code is meaningless unless you are using a built-in device code, which in this case I believe you are NOT (since there IS no built-in 1495 Setup Code in the 8910). The device upgrade that you are using might shed some light on your problems, if it uses a protocol that perhaps is sub-optimal for your equipment. Hmmmm. I was looking at the device upgrade I used and see it was Motorola-DCT-6200, device code 1495. However that is for the plain cable box. I now have a 6412 DVR. I have the upgrade for it Motorola-DCT-6412 device code 1493. I will try that and see if it makes any difference.
BTW, with respect to upload the upgrade file here, I'm not sure how or where to do that to do that. |

I use the Motorola DCT6412 III("1493") YOU referred to, that I downloaded from the upgrade area and it works fine with my Motorola 3416 (just like the 6412). You should have better luck with it. Try it before you embark on a tedious analysis effort. |

If it's the file section, then you already presumably know how to find the file section. Within the file section is a diagnosis area. At the top of that page are a number of buttons, one of which says "upload".
As for providing a link, you take the URL of the page where the file you just uploaded is at, and paste it into a message you are typing, then highlight that url adn click on the URL button just above the pane in which you are typing your message. _________________ Beginners - Read this thread first

I checked and the protocol for the 6200 in this file is the same as the protocol for various versions of the 6412 that are posted.
The upgrade and the remote work, its just behaves as if sometimes the keypresses are not responded to. I can see from the red light the signal is going out. I suspected it was the Motorola box which does have some problems in this area. However, when I use the Comcast remote, it works fine. I am also suspicious it could be the 8910 has lower output power. Any other clues? |

Behavior sounds typical of some sort of mismatch. I had a similar problem with my Westinghouse LCD TV. It responded to a number of protocols, some much better than others.
Pleae try that Motorola 6412 III upgrade and see if it works better. |

Both the 6412 (III) and the 3416 are notorious for sometimes ignoring keypresses. Actually they cache them and then execute them when they feel like it
I'm not sure what firmware I'm running on my 3416, but it's generally alot better than it was say 1 year ago, but still sometimes it caches keypresses.
The upgrade is fine, it's the box that's off.

I never have that problem with an 8910 running the Motorola 6412 III("1493") upgrade. It has always been solid as a rock. |

I tried this latest file with my 8810 with mixed results. Some buttons worked properly but others executed the wrong function altogether. For instance, I would press GUIDE and the PVR would start recording. Something isn't jiving here. Any suggestions?

I've been using this exact upgrade HERE for 2 years with no problems with an 8910 and an 8811. Could the issue be you're not using the latest KM?

Another important piece of information may be what software is used on the cable box. Comcast mostly uses iGuide (defaults to blue color), but other companies may use other software. Basic codes should work for all, but some for DVR and other features may vary. |
