Windows Media Center Edition (MCE) ir remote & keyboard

Post by beverlyhoward »

Thought I would post a "find" made last year with respect to running the Windows Media Center (mce) ir on xp machines which _don't_ have the media center edition os installed.

After a long search I found and installed the "media center rollup" for the media center edition IR receiver...

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en

After installing the above, the media center remote control and remote ir keyboard (ir) are fully functional, including the mouse (eraserhead) and all of the media controls on my pc such as wmp player/volume/etc controls.

The above link came from;

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=73305

some notes and observations;

WGA is required to download the above, but it did not balk on the fact that the verified computer is running XPPro which does not have windows media center os installed

I'm using the microsoft (samsung) usb ir receiver. It's drivers are included in the XP drivers on an uptodate box.

The ir keyboard eraserhead has to be pressed down and held down to use the pointer control (I thought the mouse was not going to be functional until I accidentally pressed down while tilting it) The eraserhead is going to take some practice, but it can be controlled onehanded for using the pointer while carrying the keyboard although the click buttons are at the other end and require the other hand.

keyboard is described at http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse ... px?pid=038
