1. Device: Coolsat 5000
2. Type of device: satellite
3. Year: 2006
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: URC-6962
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? No
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? No
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? No
9. Partially working setup code? Yes (see Below)
10. Learning remote question? n/a

I have this partially working from learning mode, but the remote will only learn 17 out of the 25 buttons needed.

Is there a code for this or a way some way I can get the remote to learn more buttons?

Thanks in advance.

There is a JP1 upgrade file Coolsat 5000 Platinum that I looked at to get the protocol and device code.

But the devices.xls file I use for looking up setup codes doesn't have the URC-6962.

It has a list of compatible setup codes from many other models. I'll paste that in below.

I expect the 6962 includes several of these setup codes. If you have any of these setup codes you can use it as a base for KeyMoves to define many of the functions of the Coolsat. If no one posts a better answer soon and if you tell me one or more of these setup codes that are in the 6962, I will explain how to do those keymoves.

It's also possible one of these setup codes has some of the right functions already assigned to the right keys, which would be better than using keymoves.

KeyMoves, like learning, is limited in capacity. But the keymove memory is not shared with the learning memory. So the fact that you filled learning memory doesn't mean you're short of keymove memory. So you could keep the 17 signals you already learned and add a bunch of others as keymoves.

Of course, all this would be much easier with a JP1 cable. With that you could just install that upgrade file I mentioned above.

In this list of setup codes, the SAT codes are most likely to have correct functions already on correct keys. But any of these setup codes is equally effective for keymoves.

When testing to see if correct functions are already on correct keys you would need to either delete your learned signals or test the setup code on a different device key. Otherwise the previously learned signals would override those 17 keys of the newly assigned setup code.

Thanks for the reply..

I do not have my manual to give you any of the codes because I am at work. But the URC-6962 is seems to be the same as the URC-6960 if that helps.

If previous precedents are meaningful, I would wager that the 6962 is similar to the 6960 (they share an rdf), being the same internally, but either (1) a Canadian model, or (2) provided with an IR/RF extender capability.

So I would imagine that all 6960 rules would apply, which although it doesn't appear in my copy of devices.xls, is one of the "middle-aged" Kameleons and is supported by the JP1 tools. Regardless, the closest "sibling" on the list would be (I imagine) the 9960.

Unfortuntaely, of those codes, only ONE (TV/0717) is resident in the old 9960, and NONE are in the 9960B01, so a cable may ultimately be your best hope.

I called one for all and they told me the codes are 1011 or 1806 which of course is not in the remote and I could either send it in to enter the codes or buy a URC-8910/11.

So any suggestions?

What they told you about SAT/1011 or SAT/1806 doesn't significantly change what I said about that whole list of setup codes and keymoves. If the 6962 includes any one of those setup codes you can use that setup code as the basis for keymoves.

It may be easiest to mail in the 6962 so they can add the right setup code. It would be better, but more expensive and more effort to add it yourself with a JP1 cable. Using keymoves would be fastest and least expensive, but only if you have one of the many setup codes I listed above.

Thanks, I went to the one-for-all site and the only code for my remote that comes up from your list is the "DVD Konka 0711" .

So How do I do the key mover for this?

You'll need the list of EFC numbers, so I'll paste that in below.

Then you need to program the setup code DVD/0711 temporarily to one of the device keys. It just needs to be there while you program the keymoves. After you program the keymoves, you can reprogram that device key back to whatever setup code you want on it.

Then you need to program the EFC keymoves. The method of doing that is standard across most of the hard button non lcd remotes, but is slightly different in the Kameleons (and very different in the hard button LCD models). I don't have a 6962 manual, so I'm not sure of the method.

Maybe one of the other experts will jump in here with better info. But I expect it is similar to these instructions from the 9960 Kameleon:

1. Press and hold SETUP until the two bottom IR segments flash twice. The Program Keys will appear as SETUP flashes repeatedly.

2. Press OTHER once. The Other programming screen will appear:

3. Using the Number Keys, enter 9 9 4.The two bottom IR segments will flash twice.

4. Press the "source" device key (the one on which you temporarily programmed DVD/0711).

5. Do a short press and release of the Setup key.

6. Key in the EFC number. I'm not sure whether the 6962 uses three digit EFC numbers or five digit EFC numbers. Test to see what works. If it uses five digit EFC numbers, put 00 before each of the three digit numbers listed below.

7. Press the destination device key (I assume that is SAT).

8. Press the key that you want to define with this keymove.

9. Repeat steps 3 through 8 if you want to define more keymoves at this time.

10. Exit programming by pressing HOME once.

There are probably keymover instructions in your manual. If so, compare those to these. Steps 5 and 6 are different because this is an EFC keymove not an ordinary keymove. But the rest of the steps should match. If they don't match, try using the steps from your manual.

Thanks, I will give it try tonight.
