Hi, does anyone have discrete codes for Liteon DVD players? All the 11xx units are pretty much the same. Actually, I'll try any code that works for any Liteon player (searches haven't turned anything up. I'm trying to avoid doing the brute force method again.

I don't think there are discretes, as I once combed through the Liteon files here as well but review these again if you haven't already

Try $A7 and $47. I did, it didn't work.

It works fine, it just lacks discrete on/off codes.

I meant 000-255 learning. Which I went ahead and did. I found no discretes that way, so I agree with you that they probably don't exist.

Unless this unit uses more than one protocol....

p.s. I did discover that the Open/Close function will power the unit on if it is not currently on, but never powers the unit off. So this could be used as a "discrete on" as long as you don't mind the DVD drawer opening when you power on. EFC 164.

So, you can make two 2-step macros:
DiscreteON=Open/Close,Open/Close;
DiscreteOFF=Open/Close,Power

Genius, thanks! I wouldn't have thought of that.

While clever, this technique doesn't work as well as hoped. The problem is that the DVD player ignores other commands once the Open/Close has been pressed. It insists on actually opening the drawer before taking another command.

In the end, I think I'll use the open/close as a discrete on. I actually do most likely want the drawer to open when I turn on the player, and this has the side benefit that pressing the DVD key a second time will close the drawer after loading the DVD.

I'll rely on the Power button for off and not worry about things getting out of synch.

Have you tried Play;POWER for OFF ?
Include Pause if needed.

Thanks for the reply, Liz. I don't follow you. Why would "Play / Power" be better for "Off" than just using the Power button?

Actually, Play works as a discrete ON for many players, and perhaps that'll work for you (rather than "Open"), in which case the macros would be:

DiscreteON= Play, Stop
DiscreteOFF= Play, Power

That's what Liz was referring to in her suggestion.

By the way, I have a DVD player (Sharp) that has no discretes, and powers on using Open/Close, and after experimenting with crazy stuff like:
DiscreteON=Open/Close,<a bunch of other commands and Pauses for up to 10 secs>,Open/Close; I decided that was too hard (Long wait, keeping the remote pointed, noise, cycling of the tray, the tray hitting the cabinet door, etc) that I just switched to ToadTog.

Your 2117 has a very mature extender, in which the ToadTog function is well-proven, so you might consider going that route instead.

Because PLAY will often act as a discrete on command.

Short of getting a tripod for the 8910 and cutting a hole in the cabinet door there was not a better solution for me than the ToadTog, so I did the same. Play;Power did the job as well, but HAF fell like a rock with that slight advancement which occured when the DVD was already stopped. The additional complication was that if you actually have to walk over to the unstarted DVD (or VCR) to change or put in the disc, it can mess power state up. But, at most, two clicks away, between ToadTog and a Power toggle it's just not an issue.
