Noobie here, trying to decide whether to try and learn how to use JP1 to add my TV to the current remote or buy the telephone upgradeable remote (URC-8910) from UEI. As there are numberous threads on the net about folks not finding any universal remote to support this TV, I'm leaning towards the DIY upgrade through the JP1 connector. An obvious deciding factor is if I can find someone with the code...
1. Device: Syntax Olevia 337H
2. Type of device: LCD HDTV
3. Year: 2006
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: Cox Cable 7820 (URC-7820 or M7820)
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Not Yet
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? No clue what this is
9. Partially working setup code? No
10. Learning remote question? n/a
Any help is appreciated.

As stated above, you don't typically need to find an exact match on the model number of your device as upgrades for similar models of the same brand will usually work. The Robman wrote:7. Checked the file section?
This is more of a checklist item than a real question. The assumption is that you have checked the file section to see if someone else has created an upgrade for this device but didn't find one. Please provide more details if this is not the case. AND REMEMBER, you don't always need to find the exact model that you have as many manufacturers use the same codeset for all models of a device.
If you check the file section you will see that there are no fewer than 8 upgrades available for Syntax Olevia TV sets, so I think it's safe to say that you can add an upgrade for your set to a JP1 upgradeable remote.

I would hate to discourage getting a JP1 cable. But
Six out of Eight files in Rob's list above are pretty much identical to each other and to built-in setup codes TV/0030 and TV/0178 that are included in most UEI models (as well as to a bunch of other setup codes in fewer models).
I don't have data on the Cox Cable 7820, so I don't know whether it has one of those many setup codes. If it does you may want to test that and maybe change the answer to "partially working setup code". From a partially working setup code, we can probably give you the info to tweak it to fully working even without JP1.
The second and fourth files in Rob's list are other code sets. The second would need an upgrade. The fourth might match one of these setup codes (none of which are in many models). And if it does match, the buttons might be scrambled (functions on the wrong buttons and many buttons do nothing). But even that would be a partially working setup code and could be fixed even without JP1.

If you decide or need JP1, I hope one of the other experts comments on whether the Cox Cable 7820 is JP1 or JP1.2 or something else.

The Cox remote ( http://www.urcsupport.com/html.php?page_id=180 )
is a JP 1.1 so I ordered the correct cable.
As my TV has the RC-LTL remote, I think I can get one of those file to work.
I'm a Radar / Computer technician in the Air Force with a good general electronics background so I feel "pretty" confident that I can manage it with a little help from the forums here.
Thanks for the info!
UPDATE: There are no codes in my remote that work with this TV. Does this mean that I will be out of luck even if I use the JP1 cable? Here is the customer support reply from UEI:

Thank you for contacting One for All customer support.
Below is the list of codes that may operate your devices. When you try each code make sure you get a double blink. If not that code is not in the remote.
TV: 1144, 1240, 1331, 1610
These are not model match codes but they may operate your model of Olevia TV.
If a code is not in your remote, you might consider sending the remote in to have the code added.

No. If I understand correctly, you have the same model remote control as the second upgrade file Rob listed (the one for which there are no built-in setup codes in any of the UEI models in Rob's Devices spreadsheet).buggin wrote:UPDATE: There are no codes in my remote that work with this TV. If you have the same remote control (RC-LTL) as that file, then that file should work for you via JP1.1 with minimum effort.
If it's not the same remote control then a little more effort would be required, but you still can figure out what codes are required and load them as a JP1.1 upgrade.

There might be a problem if the Cox 7820 isn't recognized by RM or IR (it's not listed in KM) because there's no RDF available.johnsfine wrote:No. If I understand correctly, you have the same model remote control as the second upgrade file Rob listed (the one for which there are no built-in setup codes in any of the UEI models in Rob's Devices spreadsheet).buggin wrote:UPDATE: There are no codes in my remote that work with this TV.
