Coding buttons that dont work in original remote

Hi,

first off, i apologise if this has been asked before, I have searched, but havent found anything (but then, hard to decide what exact search terms to use...)

I am programming a URC-8910 (new) remote. I've been able to do the TV, DVD, VCR, etc. A few by downloading upgrades, and a few from scratch.

Now, i've just made a RM file for a MC-M350 Philips micro hi-fi system from scratch, with the IR learning function of the remote. For some reason though, there are quite a few buttons (play, stop, FFW, etc.) that are not recognized by the device. It is not a problem of my URC remote, because the real remote doesnt work either. The hi-fi does receive the signal, because a symbol appears when I press the button (and other buttons, such as power, tape, etc. do work), so there must be a problem with those keys in the original remote.

What is the easiest way of solving this? I.e. finding the IR information for keys that don't work? I havent used the hi-fi for quite a while (a year maybe) so I dont know what's wrong with its original remote..it used to work...

Any help would be appreciated, and again, sorry if this has come up before.

Thanks!

Luis

Many times the HTIB systems use different protocols for the different sections. This makes a single upgrade difficult and often requires completely different upgrades for each section (DVD, Radio, AMP, VCR, etc).

With this in mind, some buttons will only work after you chnage modes. In other words, the DVD commands will only work after you switch to DVD mode, which is generally a specific function button.

Other than that, the fact that the OEM remote won't work makes getting your 8910 going a secondary problem.

I have made separate upgrades for each device, so that pressing the 'tv' button, it uses the tv upgrade, and so on. My problem was getting the specific cd upgrade to work.

Anyhow, the original remote seems to work now, as does the URC. My problem now, though, is that the response is very patchy for the URC remote. For example, I cant go forward more than one track (if I press it more than once, it ignores it), and some things will only work with the URC only right after I try doing the same thing with the original remote. This seems strange, given the IR it sends should be exactly the same, and I know the signal is reaching the hi-fi. Any suggestions as to the reasons for this weird behaviour?

BTW, the URC works the same (i.e. as badly) when the signal is uploaded using IR and RM, as when it is inputted directly using the learning feature...

Thanks for the quick reply, by the way!

grrr. Ok, I know what the problem is now, but not 100% sure how to get around it.

Basically, the protocol is RC-5, however, all the playing buttons (play, stop, FFW, etc.) change device number depending on whether CD, TAPE, TUNER, or AUX is selected.

Initially I had set L1-L4 to give me the choice for the 4 'devices'. Is there a way of setting the remote so that, if, say, I press L3 to give me tape, all the playing buttons automatically change to the device needed? The OBC for each button is the same, but the device number changes...

Thanks!

You need to create 4 seperate upgrades for each part of the device and assign them to 4 seperate device buttons on the 8910. As you get more comfortable with the JP1 process, you may want to consider using the extender on the 8910 to give you even more flexibility.
