Yamaha HTR-5250 - need obscure keys

1. Yamaha HTR-5250 A/V receiver
2. A/V receiver
3. 2000?
4. URC-9960B01 & RS 15-2107
5. I do have a cable. Windows could be problematic. No hope for Excel.
6. No original remote.
7. I have grabbed several files.
8. Not yet.
9. Yes. 0176 works pretty well. A Philips & RCA (non-JP1) also have codes that work.
10. Not a learning remote question. This requires the original remote, right?

I desperately need the two keys (left/back & right/forward) that modify the values in the set and time/level menus. Anyone using a JP1 with a Yamaha know if they are there?

Getting access to Windows will be a hassle. Before I go through the trouble I would like to know if I will be successful in getting these keys.

Thanks!

Well, if you don't have Windows, I'm not sure about the utility of the cable. You certainly don't need Excel. Just use RemoteMaster, which can open any of the Excel-based KeymapMaster files.(I've never really kept track of how successful others are running IR and/or KM on a Mac, but I believe that Java runs on Macs, so RM (and ultimately RMIR, when it's working for JP1 remotes) would be your way-to-go, I suspect.)

As for your codes, 0176 is the standard Yamaha tuner/Amp code, which uses NEC1 Device 122. This file is a pretty comprehensive list of Yamaha Receiver codes, and I would test the following EFCs directly from the Keypad (Make RCVR/0176 your active device, and press set-X-Y-Z) to see if any of them work:

DEV OBC EFC FUNCTION
122 156 252 SET MENU DOWN (PARAMETER DOWN)
122 157 256 SET MENU UP (PARAMETER UP)
122 158 254 SET MENU +
122 159 258 SET MENU - (PARAMETER LEFT)
122 195 179 PARAMETER DOWN
122 196 172 PARAMETER UP (SET MENU DOWN)
122 197 176 PARAMETER + (SET MENU UP)
122 198 174 PARAMETER RIGHT (SET MENU RIGHT)
122 199 178 PARAMETER LEFT (SET MENU LEFT)
122 200 301 PARAMETER / (VCR3/DVR)

What do you mean by this:

X-Y-Z is the 3-digit EFC

This feature seems to work on my RS 15-2107. 103 is the forward/+ key and 107 is the back/- key for the menus. This thing is now unscrewed!!!

Should this very useful feature work on the newer URC-9960B01?

I can use this handy feature on the RS 15-2107 by hitting the recessed "P" key twice. The LCD shows "SHIFT". When you hit the third digit the red "I'm sending something to somebody LED illuminates".

How do I use this on the 9960? <muffled sound of frustrated user tryin' stuff> Oh ... the 9960 wants a 5 digit code: use 00106 for sleep where the 2107 wants 106 (codes for the Yamaha).
