Hello,

1. Device: Sylvania 6842PE Plasma
2. Type of device: TV
3. Year: 2005
4. UEI Remote model: 8811
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes
6. Still have original remote? No
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
9. Partially working setup code? Yes (0171 or 0180..not sure which one)
10. Learning remote question? Kinda

I bought a used Sylvania Plasma a few months ago. It didnt come with a remote. I have a OFA 8811 remote and JP1 Cable. Using the stored codes (0171 or 0180) I was able to get some basic functions working. However, I am having a hard time with the TV Setup Menu. I can get into the menu but I do not have proper working up/down keys to go through the options. I've checked R/C and the files section here and there is no codes listed for this model plasma. Does anyone else have this tv and can help me out?

Thanks in Advance,
Jazz

Despite not using the mandatory template (see the #1 Code Search FAQ - linked below in my sig), it would appear that you have provided some of the information required, although you don't specifcy WHICH DEVICE TYPE the partially working setup codes are.

TV/0171 is Emerson protocol, device 41, whilst
TV/0180 is NECx1 protocol, device 8, subdevice 8,
so it seems unusual that each works SOME functions.

There is a VIDACC/0171 setup code that uses NEC1 protocol, device 55, but that's somewhat different from the other NEC setup code as well.

It would seem that at this point your only option is a manual code search. Build upgrades using each of those protocol/device combinations, and assign all OBCs in order from 000 through 255 and see what they do.

There are caveats associated with doing a manual code search with TV's, of course, as sometimes (relatively rarely, in my experience reading these boards) you might stumble across a reset code of some sort rendering your TV unusable. Search the forum on this topic, if you wish.

If you provide more details regarding what functions do what in the two setup codes you have partial success with, someone may be able to provide more focussed advice.

There are three Sylvania TV upgrades in the file section. Have you tried them? Not being the same model rarely is a limiting factor, as manufacturers are usually consistent across smiliar products.

This upgrade uses the Emerson:41 protocol:Device combination that may or may have not worked partially in your 0171 built-in setup code.

The other Sylvania TV upgrades use Mitsubishi:71, including one I found over at RemoteCentral, so that might be worth testing as well.

Retest and find out which.

Then tell us the setup code plus which functions work and which functions seem to be missing.

I probably can find a CCF file for another brand using the same code set and get the missing functions from there.

Maybe you don't even need to find missing functions. It is likely that some of the other keys that do basic functions lose their normal meaning and become arrows while you're in the setup menu. CH+- abd Vol+- are the most likely. But try all the keys.

That request almost never gets results. If a regular here had that model TV, they already posted an upgrade. If some JP1 user has your model TV and didn't post an upgrade, they also aren't reading this thread.

You need to solve it without an exact model match.

There is always the brute force method, once you know the protocol and device code. As soon as you retest those two setup codes you'll know protocol and device code, because Capn Trips posted them. Then you could make a few upgrades covering all possible OBC numbers, put the TV into the setup mode and see which buttons do what.

That's rather tedious so you probably want to try the easier ways I mentioned above first.
