1. Device: Creative Zen W
2. Type of device: portable MP3 and media player
3. Year: 2006
4. UEI Remote model: Don't know
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? Yes
6. Still have original remote? No
7. Checked the file section? Yes (only the nomad jukebox from creative here)
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes - same as 7.
9. Partially working setup code? No
10. Learning remote question? Don't have original
This is a new device and doesn't come with a remote - although I believe the remote is now available as an optional extra. Anyone have this remote already? Alternatively is there a search method to discover the protocol and devices for a completely unknown system. Would creative use the same protocol and a difference device than for the nomad (NEC1)?

How can you be a JP1 user if you don't know if you have a UEI remote?harryw wrote:4. UEI Remote model: Don't know

Sorry - misunderstood
Thought this reffered to the remote of the device. I have a radio-shack 15-2104, a OFA 5 in 1 and a OFA 6 in 1.

There are hundreds of protocol and too many different device code possibilities for there to be any chance that a random search will find the right signal.harryw wrote:This is a new device and doesn't come with a remote - although I believe the remote is now available as an optional extra. Even if they did use the NEC1 protocol, there are over 65k possible device codes, and 256 possible command codes within each device code, that's 168k possibilities.
So, you're only hope is if (a) someone else bought the remote and captured the signals, or (b) the company is willing to release the spec on the remote control signal.
Is it possible to buy and return the remote?

Thanks Robman - I thought an exhaustive search was a long shot.
Good idea about the buying and returning - I might wait until they have them in a local store though.
Since they're selling these as an optional extra I guess they'd be even less inclined to release the spec than if the RC came with every device.
