Thinking about extender for 15-2117

Hi all,

I have about a half-dozen of these remotes. I used JP1 to program them several years ago. At that time there was no extender. Now I have to do some additional programming, and am considering installing the extender, primarily to get macro capability. I honestly don't recall the details now, but figure it will come back to me when I get into it.

Here's the question -- glancing at the docs for the now-available extender -- it says that "learning" is no longer available after the extender is installed. Is that correct? If so, is the best idea to keep one "un-extended" remote to do learning when needed?

The extender is easy to remove. When it is time to learn, remove the extender; learn; decode; edit your extender based config (to include results of decode); finally reload the extender based config.

All you have to do is to take a snapshot of the remote before you do anything with the extender. The only real difference is the contents of the EEPROM so you can put either the extended or non-extended remote in there any time you like.

That way, all you have to do is load up IR with the image, blast it into the remote (it will complain that the signature does not match, ignore that) and you're back to a normal remote.
