As I read on some forums, this device has the same code set as Hyundai HY3455 DVD player. Someone also mentioned that it is cross-coded (same protocol, but different command set) with LG TVs (i.e. R/C for SDVD300 also "randomly" controls LG TVs (there was no information as to which ones)).

There is a ray of hope. I have programmed TV device of my URC8811 with the code 0056 (LG TV), and some buttons on the URC8811 now actually do something for SDVD300:

POWER (on 8811) -> reduces the volume on SDVD300
MUTE (on 8811) -> stops the playback on SDVD300
TV/VID (on 8811) -> SDVD300 goes to root menu
VOL(-) -> SDVD300 goes to title menu
VOL(+) -> fast forward search on SDVD300
PREV -> Prompt to select the chapter to skip to
NUMERICAL BUTTONS -> Skip to a set chapter (which does not match the pressed #)

Any clues?

It is same protocol but different commands with a LOT of different devices.

POWER (on 8811) -> reduces the volume on SDVD300
MUTE (on 8811) -> stops the playback on SDVD300
TV/VID (on 8811) -> SDVD300 goes to root menu
VOL(-) -> SDVD300 goes to title menu
VOL(+) -> fast forward search on SDVD300

Your FF, Stop, Vol-, and Root menu functions all match the Yamada DVD-2100 in this CCF file:

I expect most of your other functions match as well. Below is an extract of the OBC, EFC and description of all the DVD functions in that file.

If this doesn't do it, or some are still missing, you could just make a few test upgrades for NEC1:4 and try all the buttons to see what they do, then remap. If most of these work, but some are missing, the missing functions almost certainly have OBC numbers either in the range 0 to 31 or the range 64 to 95.

2 Capn Trips: I've tried the suggested codes for both devices. Both work, meaning that they produce signals that SONWA understands. However, the buttons are shuffled around and some missing, although some are correct.

2 johnsfine: I've created the JP1 upgrade from scratch for your key codes table just above, using the KM, then uploaded it to my 8811. Almost 100% success - all buttons seem fine except some functionality is missing - I can not do some things that I was able to (accidentally!) when I used standard codes as per Capn Trips' suggestion.

This brings up next question: How do I find out the OBCs produced by my 8811 buttons when I program the standard device not upgrade (say 0672 into DVD ?). I have d/loaded the contents of 8811 to IR, but can not find the way to read the button mapping in there.
Or do I do that in KM? But how do I transfer the d/loaded data from IR to KM?
Sorry, this must be a noob question, but yes, I am still the one.

In particular, I want to know what OBC code is produced by {Vol-} button when TV code 0056 is programmed that takes me to the menu which no button from your list above does.

In my list things like `Right_Arrow represent an english description of a special character in the CCF file. The real meaning usually depends on context.

Notice `Right_Arrow appears for two different commands in my list. Obviously the context matters, but you can't see that context without opening the ccf file's graphics UI in ProntoEdit.

I'm explaining all that because OBC 3, the first `Right_Arrow in my list, is the OBC I think you want (V- from TV/0056).

I forget the URL for the devices spreadsheet that gives EFC numbers for all commands in the 15-1994. That may give you the setup codes you care about. I forget whether there is any accesible data for setup codes not in the 15-1994.

Depends on the protocol. In rare cases also depends on the remote model.

There is a single most common algorithm that is used by this (NEC1) and many other protocols. There are tables available in various online locations for that algorithm.

There is an EFC calculator in IR.EXE (tools menu) for four of the more common algorithms (this one is "LSB comp") useful if you know which algorithm goes with your protocol and it is one of those four.

But the most robust way is to use the Functions sheet of KM or RM to do the translation after filling in the setup sheet with the remote model, protocol name, and even device numbers (which in rare cases affect the EFC to OBC translation).

Err, well, umm... If I told you I'd have to, well, you know. Seriously, there are several methods that one can use to do this (some of which use John's excellent DecodeIR dll), but most are too complex for a beginner to tackle.

A simple way for you to find them would be to keymove the button in question to another button, then download the memory and take a look in IR.exe to see what EFC was used.

Then maybe you can also post here the OBC or EFC set for VCR/0020, in particular the URC8811's STOP button code in that mode, as that seems to be the button that controls the power on/off for SONWA, and it does not appear in any configuration above in this topic. Thanks in advance.
