Hitachi 46UX11 (+) and (-) function

Hey all. I have an older RPTV that does not have a remote, nor does it have front panel controls. I tried my 8910 and other universals but can't seem to figure out which funtion is (+) as with the original remote. It's used to perform the execute function for various things such as auto channel programming, etc. For instance, when I try to auto program, it says "press (+) to begin". Vol + doesn't work and Ch + doesn't work. Any ideas on what the EFC for this function is? Thanks,
Alex

ESPECIALLY in a case like this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use the mandatory Code Search template, found in the number 1 code search FAQ sticky post (and linked below in my sig).

Here's the missing template...
1. Device: Hitachi 46UX11
2. Type of device: rear projection TV
3. Year: not specified
4. JP1 Remote model: URC-8910
5. JP1 user? not specified
6. Still have original remote? no
7. Checked the file section? not specified
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? not specified
9. Partially working setup code? Sounds like yes, but doesn't say WHICH code.
10. Learning remote question? n/a
There are several JP1 upgrades in the file section for Hitachi RPTVs, all of which include the cursor buttons. Did you try any of them?

And what exactly did you find in the file section? As Rob points out there are several files there for Hitachis.
A quick glance at
THIS ONE shows a "-" function assigned OBC 17 (EFC 121). Interestingly, this upgrade has no "+" function.
Grab one or several of those files and test them out - and then look at the list of OBCs used. There may be an obvious gap where a code search might prove fruitful. I'd look at OBCs 19, 22 and 26 first (EFCs 123, 118, 247). The usual warnings and cautions apply to doing a code search with a TV.
P.S. There's a replacement remote available
HERE for a mere $145

(which is why you WANT to use JP1, isn't it?)

TV/0145 matches the signal used by most of those upgrades (ie, NEC1, device 80) so I would expect that any one of them would work for you.

Yep, I found a
pronto file that supposedly lists all codes for hitachi RPTV's, and of course, (+) is nowhere to be found. I'll just try and run through them all and hopefully will discover it without messing up the TV.

Is that a 46UX11KA or KF? (different chassis). The service manual shows a CLU950GR (or GRII) or a CLU609 as the correct remotes although the 850 looks similar to the 950.
If you could blow that picture up you would see that there is a + and - as one of the PIP keys (I enlarged the pic in the service manual). I don't know if I have a similar remote in the shop but I won't be able to check for a few days.
Some codes to try would be PIP + and -, or CBL up and down, or PIP move and freeze since these commands are in the same physical location on other remotes as the + and - are on the 850.
Sorry, the model is too old to have an owner's manual available for download, which might show the needed key more clearly.

You still haven't said whether you've tried the JP1 files, all of which have UP and DOWN cursor buttons in them (if that's the same thing).

It's a "KA" AP13 chassis. I've searched high and low for the user manual but also came up empty handed. I've tried up/down, left/right, don't remember seeing cursor, but I'll check again when I get home. Also, pip move doesn't do anything. I'll keep trying and I do appreciate all the help you all are providing!

Found a code that worked here
http://www.hifi-remote.com/cgi-bin2/ueic.cgi?TV_0145 which is 228 listed as CCC3 and UP/TIME/BLUE
Thanks again for all your help!

You should also try 232, which is listed as CCC4 and Down / Swap / Yellow
