IR 7.00 (beta3) now available

I have uploaded the beta2 version of IR 7.0 with JP1.x support.

The same caution is required as with the previous versions.....

Fixed :
- "Unable to close remote" popup corrected (CloseRemote does not return a value).
- JP1.x menu/radiobutton is exclusive to other JP1 menus/radiobuttons. Default is reverting to "Parallel" and "Autodetect".
- "Conflicting EEPROM size"popup corrected (check removed).

To be done :
- Make JP1x COM port forceable/changeable
- Autodetect jp1x .dll
- Add any suggested correction/feature.

bug?

With this version yesterday I was "replacing" a device upgrade that had several key moves in it. Ir asked me if I wanted to replace the first keymove (I said yes) and after the first one was done, it reported an access violation and stopped replacing the keymoves. The first one was done, the rest were still there from the old upgrade (I could see them in the RAW data)

I can probably recreate it if necessary.

Can you please upload the relevant files to the diagnosis area so that I can investgate ?

Could you please load a copy of your existing IR file to the Diagnosis Area, then cut and paste the upgrade here that you are trying to add to IR.

Tried several times to reproduce, I've been playing with lots of IR files trying to make my 6960 work right and really can't remember which one it was. If I come across it again I'll make sure that I write down what I was doing and save the files.

In the mean time, back to our regularly scheduled program

How close is the hardware portion of the JP1.x coming? It seems to have died off in the past fews months.

My understanding is that the hardware is complete. It's the SOFTWARE updates that are the delay.

Looks "simple" enough to build. Do I need to find and buy a new jp1.x remote and start testing or is the software not working correctly for it yet?

I think the software (ie, this beta version of IR.exe) is pretty much done, it's the hardware that we've been having problems with. The first couple of designs work OK, but they involve using project boxes for the interface. Since then Tommy has worked very hard to reduce the number of components sufficiently so that the PCB can fit inside a DB9 shell, where there isn't much room to work with.

This process was further complicated by the fact that we wanted a design that would work for both JP1.1 and JP1.2 remotes.

I think the latest design is solid, but I haven't had a chance to play with it much yet.

Rob,

I'm ok with a box. You should see my JP1 cable mess. It works, but it is not pretty.

Just to clarify, does the current hardware design seem to work with both JP1.1 and JP1.2 now?

Where's the best place to pick up a JP1.x enabled remote locally? I don't think my local Walmart has the One4All units anymore. My JP1 8810w's are getting worn out. Couldn't beat the price.

Lots of places.

Look for the URC-6820, URC-8820, or URC-10820

Issues w/ IR 7.0 beta 2

I've been using IR 7.0 beta 2 with a JP1.2 remote URC-10820 and latest 7/31/2006 Tommy Tyler JP1.x interface. Its definitely working, and I'm delighted to have JP1 programmability for my JP1.2 remote, but have noticed some issues:

1) Installation zip file seems to be missing a file. When I unzip the IR70beta2.zip file to a new directory and attempt to run ir.exe I get the error:

"You must unzip the entire contents of the distribution file to a directory and run this program from that location. This program will now terminate."

Workaround: Add gwiopm.sys file from IR620.zip to directory.

2) IR seems to loose connection to the COM port frequently. If I connect my JP1.2 interface to COM1 (in WinXP Pro) and to the remote, then start IR.exe, select the JP1.x radio button (which is forgotten every time IR.exe is closed, good enhancement to store current interface in registry and set automatically at startup), and then "Check Interface" it will work, and I can download/upload immediately.

If I then wait awhile (like tweaking my remote programming), and then attempt to "Check Interface" or "Download"/"Upload" then the interface check will fail with:

"Failed to open JP1.2 interface"

Workaround: Save my configuration, exit IR, restart IR, select JP1.x
radio button and "Check Interface", and it'll work again.

3) Can't include any Keymoves in a Device Upgrade. When I design an upgrade in KM-v9.01 and include some keymoves, and then attempt to add that Device to IR via an "Add" and Paste I get the following errors/overflows after pressing the "OK" button on the Device Upgrade Window:

"The Fav/Scan list contains too many entries. The will be truncated." (over and over again)

"Key Move/Macro overflow. There is more data in your key move/macro section than can be stored in the remote. You must remove some key moves, macros, or scans."

This is with no previous key moves stored, and the key moves that are loaded are badly scrambled.

Example Device Upgrade w/ Keymove:

Upgrade Code 0 = 57 24 (Misc Audio/1828) Roku Soundbridge (KM v9.01)
5A 00 9E 9C BA EF 00 09 00 19 85 05 F9 79 B9 39
D9 59 99 97 67 C7 27 A7 A7 27 07 17 47 57 D7 B7
37 F7 77 BD E7 87
KeyMoves
04 F4 50 0D 00 37«=amp/0013 vol+: Pioneer Amp V
olume Up»¦05 F4 50 0D 00 3B«=amp/0013 vol-: Pion
eer Amp Volume Down» ¦08 F4 50 0D 00 77«=amp/001
3 mute: Pioneer Amp Volume Mute» ¦BF F4 57 24 00
A4«discrete off: Discrete Power Off» ¦BC F4 57
24 00 AB«discrete on: Discrete Power On»
End

Workaround: Check "DISABLE Combined Key Moves" in KM and
manually create your Keymoves after adding the Device Upgrade.

All these issues have workarounds, but I wanted to provide feedback on problems I was seeing.

Thanks for an awesome tool!

I got my remotes and the interface working. The problem I am having is importing RM upgrades for my Dish Network 942 DVR. I can use the default 0775 and get the DVR to respond, but I want to move the keys around like I did in the 8810w. When I import the upgrades, the DVR doesn't respond. I used the Dish Network Protocol in RM.

Here is the upgrade code:

Code: Select all

Upgrade code 0 = 06 EF (SAT/1775) DishNetwork PVR 942 (RM v1.63)
 02 62 3E FE FE F4 E1 00 68 78 08 6C 68 78 70 60
 40 50 00 48 98 2C 0C 80 C4 C8 84 7C 98 DC D8 94
 E4 EC E8 F4
KeyMoves
 83 F0 04 06 EF 00 52«power»¦
 23 F0 04 06 EF 00 B3«Page up»¦
 24 F0 04 06 EF 00 B2«Page down»¦
 3F F0 04 06 EF 00 F2«Discrete On»¦
 40 F0 04 06 EF 00 AE«Discrete Off»
End
I am using remote address 1/device 0 (default for 0775)

Any ideas?

Please provide links to the KM upgrade for your Dish Network 942 DVR that you imported in RM, as well as the IR file with the upgrade installed.l
